Just curious. Wondering what INGO thinks about the difference between these two Marlin rifles. The 60 generally seems to cost more. Is it worth the extra cash?

    So, two questions:
    1. If you were purchasing another Marlin rimfire semi-auto, which would you purchase and why, 60 or 795?

    2. Are these subject to the same Remlin disasters as the 1894, 45-70, 336, or did Remington manage to make these right? Should one look for a JM on the barrel as one does for the other caliber models?

No idea about the "Remlins" or the 795 for that matter.
Now, the older model Glenfield 60 was one of the best rifles I had owned growing up.
I'd have to look closely at the newer offerings, but if it were a JM stamped model 60, I'd not hesitate at all.

I'm an amateur collector of the Marlin Model 60. I think the 795 is a fine plinker. The 60 is beautiful in it's simplicity and sleek design. Find an older one with real wood and good iron sights. Buy a tubular speed loader and lots of ammo. It'll outlive you. Keep an eye on the extractor, firing pin, easily replaced if necessary. Keep it clean.

If your just looking for a cheap plinker, the 795 works fine. I have done a couple of Appleseeds with mine. If your wanting something to hold on to for a long time and pass down to the grand-kids, get the Marlin 60.

Mechanically, the 60 and 795 are the same, and accuracy is identical. The only difference is that the 60 uses an attached tube magazine, and the 795 uses a detachable box magazine. I own and regularly shoot both models.

Now, that being said, if I was forced to pick only one, I'd pick the 60. But, I'm a tuber through and through.

I like the 795 and my kids love it. Very accurate and we bought several 25 round after market mags that work great. I would guess I have over 2000 rounds shot in our 795 with no issues. Also, I chose the 795 because in my opinion it was safer for my kids when they were younger with the magazines versus tube feed. Just my opinion.

I need a k22 in my life*, what a beautiful combo that would be - marlin 60 and a k22, both blued with nice walnut.
As a kid I imagined the guns at the beginning of El Paso were of the k22 variety and the rifle Marty Robbins (or Bob Weir) sang about at the end of the song was to me of course a marlin 60

(*get a good one in your shop, might just drive down and buy it) :-)

A Marlin Model 60 was my first .22 rifle. I shot many squirrels with it. I wish I still had it.

I'd try to find an older model 60 with the wood stock that has the squirrels on it. Very cool .22. Still have mine that I got as a kid, I've put many thousand rounds down the barrel.

It was my first rifle too, but I foolishly sold it years ago. Since then I've bought several over the years since I really missed it; my last one was a stainless model. I bought my wife one and she loves shooting hers. Put scopes on both of ours and they are great shooters!

I bought a model 60, brand new at k-mart in 1976 for $25. Used it for plinking & hunting rabbits. Works great, still have it. It was my 1st firearm.
Wish I had bought 100 of them at that price.
