Just picked up a Model 17. Ser #35xxx
I think it's an older shotgun from what I can tell but not exactly sure if I'm right on the date.
Its in about 6 out of 10 shape cosmetically, but mechanically is great. I will do some cleaning before I post pics.
Should this be a keeper? Not to keen on shotguns, in fact I have none. Mostly a rifle and pistol shooter. But it was hard to pass on an oldie with character and great price. I'm assuming it's 20 gauge bc that's what all the sites say.
If it's not a good shooter or collectible I'll dump it at the show. Just hoping someone has more info on it as I have no experience with shotguns.
    Thanks

Trying to disassemble and having some issues, I don't want to damage such an old classic. Looking on YouTube and not finding much help. Can anyone point me in the direction of disassembly videos? Or should I even try with this classic. Should I have a smith restore it? I hate to see these old classics disappear but it doesn't seem like there is much interest in these.

Does it look like this? If so, it looks like it would be very similar to an Ithaca Model 37 as far as basic field strip goes.

Here is a page (stevespages.com) where you can find the original owner's manual. Scroll down to Remington 17 to get to the .pdf that you can download or print. Not sure it will give you what you're looking for or not though.

Thanks for the info. I found a YouTube on Ithaca 37 disassembly, your right. Pretty much the same. Cleaning it very thoroughly now. The guy chipped the stock and put tape around it to hold it in place. I guess glue was unavailable at the time. :dunno:
After taking it apart, it's in better shape than I thought. Only real issue is the stock. Which has now been glued and tape removed. But I'm assuming it's a weak point. Missing 2 lockdown screws (the ones that hold the bigger screws in place) which I found on eBay already. So it looks like it will be a complete shotgun.
Assembly will be late tonight. Then a couple pics before bed

Good deal. If glued properly, your stock should be okay (especially with a 20 gauge). I looked at Numrich but they don't have stocks for the model 17. It would be interesting to know if the stock from an Ithaca would fit it. They just look so similar, but then again "similar" doesn't mean "the same". I wasn't familiar with this model, so thanks for posting. I love my Ithaca 12 gauge and would like to have one in 20 gauge sometime. This Remington looks like it might be another viable option as well. :yesway:
