my neighbor just gave me a sweet rifle a 1903a3 sport. the only thing sport about it is the stock. but that's not the sweet part the sweet part is the scope.... a mint original m84 scope. and man is that optic sweet. You garand owners would love to own this sweet piece for sure. It was designed for the garand. I'm thinking of getting a 1903 stock and bring it back to what it use to look like . whats your thoughts should I or shouldn't I

I'm no collector of milsurp guns, but if that were my rifle, it would go back to an original issue stock only if that stock fit me better than the one it wears now, all the better to enjoy actually shooting it.
If I wanted it more as a show piece getting it as close to as originally issued, then yeah, find a decent original stock.

That scope, if genuine, is a good amount of $$. I would look for a USGI stock to match it.... or just order a new walnut stock from CMP or Boyds, then give it a nice redeemed look with Fiebings dye followed by raw linseed or ting oil. Either way, nice find and definitely de-sporterize it

Yeah, that's a real sweetie! I've shopped original M84 scopes; they are pricey. I too would like to see that old gal back the way she belongs.

I'm sure you can get a nice USGI stock for it if you look around. Do some studying before you buy, so you'll have an idea of what is correct.

So is she a Remmy or a Typewriter?

If the serial number is visible with out removing the scope mount it started as a M1903A4 sniper rifle.

I agree, bring this back to life, careful with the serial numbers though, they didn't have the best heat treatment back then, but it should be fine

I also think you should bring it back to original condition. There are tons of parts out there for the M1903's. I restored one recently and it looks so much better.
