My brother bought a new Springfield M1-A1 yesterday at the gun show. We shot it today. Very nice. Less recoil than I expected. He needs more magazines. He bought a couple 20 round Thermold mags. Thought maybe someone had some advice on high quality mags at a reasonable price. Please, no recommendations for Promag. :):

Not sure why I called the M1A rifle a M1-A1. Seems like I heard that somewhere. :dunno:

Oh, yeah, go buy more mags. Lots of good makers now.

I bought a freight car full of Winchester M14 mags 30 years or so ago at a gun show in Kentucky. They work just fine. Still have several in the foil paper.

Yeah. My Brother is a WWII fanatic. He has an M1 Garand and a M1A1 carbine. His is not the paratrooper model like you have pictured, but it was a WWII issue. He has had it for years. A buddy of mine had a 1928 Thompson. he paid $24,000 for it. Shot the snot out of it and sold it a few years later for $40,000.

When I built my M14 a few years ago most recommended was Checkmate Industries (CMI). I believe these are the ones above stated at 44mag. I have several CMI mags and never had a problem.

I've got springfield & check mate 20rd mags and they're both 100% reliable and awesome.

I've got some $10 mags from Sportsmansguide.com and honestly they've been very reliable, but at the same time the quality is not remotely apples to apples. The ones I have from them I ended up having to clean up a little bit. They don't fit solidly like the other mags or give the same level of confidence as the springfield or check mate mags, but they work. I have a stack of my good mags, then I have my cheapo's with orange duct tape on them that I use for training.
