I'm currently looking into buying a used Remington 1100 or possibly a new one but from what i've noticed most older firearms seem more well built than the newer ones. is there any advice anyone can provide as in any years better than others and what to look for in buying a used one? thanks for any help.

I own a Remington 1187 Premier. Great gun. Might I recommend purchasing a "older"(70's/early 80's era) 1100. From what I have read they have better metal in them than new production.

My dad bought a used 1100 from a guy back in the 80s because it wouldn't cycle the guy's reloads. Ate any factory ammo you'd shove in it.:dunno:

I would think the only problem would be in the gas rings, and those are cheap to replace and the only way to inspect them is to remove the barrel.

I have a couple of old seasoned 1100's that haven't been shot much since I've owned them. Would you keep extra gas rings around, knowing this could be an issue?

    Prices, specifics, where to buy?

It's a rubber part, so failure is always a possibility. I haven't had one fail, but I don't shoot my 1100 that much.

I've owned several older and newer 1100/1187 shotguns. I've never had a single issue with any of them. Just make sure you get a factory Remington barrel with it if you buy a used one. I'm not crazy about the aftermarket barrels on shotguns.

I wiil second the previous reference to shotgunworld.com Remington shotguns. When you get there seek out any posts written by The Virginian. He is VERY knowledgable about the Remington 1100/1187.
