This still makes me sick to this day, but in the early 2000's my guard unit was doing a total inventory after a change of command and a lot of excess equipment was purged straight to a dumpster and 8 NOS M2 flash hiders still in the desiccant paper were among the casualties. If it wasn't on the property books or still useful it was tossed. If I wasn't a bicycle commuter that drill weekend I would have saved a lot of good equipment.
