I currently have a TAC 20 built on a Stiller Predator action with a Krieger barrel and 11 twist, this is an extended reach rifle on coyotes that is used when hunting stands provide shots in the 250 – 400 yard range. This has been an exceptional cartridge for that game and distance.
I was recently given Redding 6x47Lapua dies, 6.5 x 47 Lapua cases new, Wilson bullet seater, bullets and powder from a former 6x47L shooter. I’ve never really given much thought or appreciated the cartridges that are north of the .224. I’m a predator hunter and shoot smaller game – coyote, fox, crow, squirrel, etc. But with the recent gifting of the hardware, my interest level is up a notch.
The question –
Will I be rendering my TAC 20 less useful with the 6x47 Lapua, they appear to overlap quite a bit in terms of accuracy, speed, range. I was just curious on your thoughts of having both a TAC20 and a 6x47Lapua? Can I find niches for each rifle? Would you say the two cartridges have stark differences?
