So I recently traded for an almost mint condition Marlin 1894 CS chambered in 357Mag. This is my first lever action and has possibly sparked a new found love. The previous owner said it had been fired less than 10 times and I likely tripled that amount over the weekend. It was an absolute blast to shoot. If I can't get a deer during bow season or while hunting on private ground, there is a good chance this will be my new deer gun. Last years obsession was ARs and now its old cowboy guns. :dunno:

The .357's are harder to find than the .44's, and therefore more sought after, and more expensive.
For an all-around pistol caliber rifle, you can't get much better than the .357mag.

Better watch yourself though. Levers have a way of sneaking up on you, and before you know it, you just HAVE to have another.

My first lever was a Marlin 1894 in .44mag.
    That was some time ago.
    I now have levers in, .22lr, .22mag, .327fed/mag, .357mag, .44mag, .454Casull, .35Rem, .30-30Win, .45/70gvt.

    It can become a habit...

    Could be anywhere
Nothing wrong with broadening your horizons...now you'll need matching wheel guns and a period correct shotgun too. A win94 .30-30 was the first long arm I bought, the first of a few lever guns.

We got another one coming over to the dark side Leadeye....:)

Good to have a convert, but lever guns to me are the guns of America, John Wayne, Bucky O' Neil, Teddy Roosevelt. from 50-95 to 25-20 I love them all. I like Marlins and have several, but just the sound of the word Winchester causes great emotion.:)

Welcome to the Marlin lever gun world. I have two Marlins that were made the same year I was. Marlins are my favorites, but I do own two Winchester's as well. Love my lever guns. Congrats on a very nice Marlin.

I forgot to add that the serial # dates it to the year I was born which really sweetened the deal for me!
This is a REALLY cool coincidence, and congratulations on your purchase, it's a beauty! I have Henrys that multiplied in my safe (as others have warned). I love my Henrys, but I think the side loading gate like you have (vs. a tube-fed system like Henry uses) is a great feature on the Marlins and Winchesters. Sounds like you're having a lot of fun with it, as you should. I remember reading something comparing lever guns to semi-autos that rings true for me... it's more of an engaging experience, like driving a stick shift car vs. an automatic. You could say the same thing about bolt action setups, but lever guns are the "cowboy" way to go!

It can be an addictive obsession, 8 Winchester's and 1 Henry.
    1- 17HMR
    2- 22 Mag
    3- 22 LR
    3- 30-30

Looking for 357 and 44 Mag to add to the collection.

A Marlin 1894c was my first (Ever) gun, given to me at Christmas by my late aunt. It continues to be my my favorite gun to shoot. Nice deer rifle too, as long as you keep in mind shot placement. I hit one too far forward this past year with it....

    Enjoy

Congrats on purchase. The 1894c in .357 was my 1st lever action as well (20 years ago). Great gun. Fun to shoot. I let my 14 yo son use it for deer season.

Got my first lever action Henry h001 in the last year, I want more. Was recently in top guns and picked up a catalog, that was a mistake. Now I was a Henry lever in 357.

I bought the Henry carbine, in 327, and now want the 357, 41, and 44. If you like the rimfires, you'll love the centerfires; solid steel receiver, or the brass, if you're so inclined.
