I have been looking at getting a new Remington 1100 American Classic. It’s a beautiful gun and has a good reputation. I wanted to get some opinions, anyone have any trouble with them? Does anyone have any likes or dislikes?

What are you going to do with it, Competition skeet, or rabbit hunting, 30k rounds a year or 300, If it's 300 then buy it and be happy, The newer V3 has some nice upgrades a less recoil. I've got a 50 yr old 12ga(bought new) and a 20ga ltwt , one Gas ring on the 12ga has been the only repairs.

My first gun purchase (over 40 years ago) was the 1100 semi Trap.

It was a beauty. Sadly I sold it because I needed some money. I miss it.

Funny Ziggidy, I too purchased my 1100 Trap just over 40 years ago too. My wife and I fired several thousand rounds shooting trap with it. Very accurate, easy to swing and easy to get on target. Still have it today and it still looks new. Great shotgun!!!

About the only caveat would be the quality of the new 1100 versus the old proven ones. Can't see anything wrong with getting a new one.

The 1100 Magnum 12 ga will run 2 3/4" non magnum.
Killed many a dove with a high gloss magnum 12.
Ran WW Superhandicap and Sporting Clays 7.5's no prob.

But when they mandated non toxic at F&W areas that killed me running steel in it.
    Won't cycle.

So I just bought a reg 1100 12 ga. It runs em.

The 1187 has a self regulating gas system, in theory LOL........to run both magnum and non magnum without any changes.
It also runs a stainless mag tube.

Stainless mag tube is so people don't soak it in oil to protect it from rust. Dirty system, and oil and powder residue will gum the outside of the tube and make your rig a single shot (til you wipe it clean).

Some folks think then, that no oil is the solution. And then they rust the mag tube, making it snag crud even more.

Real simple..........Remoil. Wipe off with paper towel. What is left is enough to do the job.

Been running reg 1100's w blued magtubes..........zero problems except ONE TIME.
Took one out of storage and forgot to wipe off mag tube.
Went single shot in dove field part way through.
Got back in the game in short order..........nice black smudge across the belly of my camo T shirt (used to wipe it off while cussing myself).
That was a magnum running 1300 FPS target ammo.
If I had a reg bbl it might have kept going without wipe off.

When it didn't cycle the light bulb came on. Last used was after rain and I over did the oil...........and months later forgot.
Ever since I wipe down/off the mag tube, before shooting.

I do like an old RKW finished magnum 1100.
Good wood and they came with a decent recoil pad.
    What's not to like?

When the geese are coming in and you drop 3 in one pass..........an auto is a pretty nice thing :)

I babied my first Magnum, killed a few turkeys with it too.
But got tired of taping it up.

So I run a beater 1100 SP I gunkoted. Had funny stains in parkerizing.
    Its matte black now.

RKW was one of the best gun wood finishes made. The real pride of DuPont.

I would go with a 11-87 for the wider range of ammo choices. Anything Remington prior to 2006 is a pre freedom group Remington. I have 2 11-87 premiers a 1988 and a 2000 light contour and both run fine. Just keep em clean like you are supposed to anyway.
I have purchased a current production 870 20ga and it seems to be Ok so far, no sticking shells or anything just the lower quality plastic trigger guard is all I can tell from my early 90's 870. But I am sure there are other cost saving shortcuts inside. Go with a used one from prior to 2006.

Remington goes by barrel code IIRC for date of manufacture (there is a model history on Remington Society so you can see when certain offerings came to be).
Since bbls easily swap out.........might be hard to tell when an 870/1100 was made.

Just checked on web, guess serial number prefix letter can help w date.

Looked at my dove gun, L prefix, says '68.
Didn't think it that old, got it used. Had new bolt and trigger group in it...........guy dumped it at LGS.
Was a single shot............due to missing interruptor latch snap ring.
Runs great, cost me 8 bucks to fix it IIRC.

Have an 1100 SP, those came out in the 80's IIRC.

I called Remington and they were able to tell me the year from the serial. My LT20 is from 78.
