Hello. I have a Colt 6520 I'm thinking of getting rid of. What is a fair asking price? It's a police trade in with very little wear. It has the LE/government restricted markings. I checked Gun Broker and they range anywhere from $1400 on the low end to $2400 for a new in box. This seems a bit high to me but I'm not sure. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Those lowers qualify as preban, so in states that are still regulating “assault weapons” citizens will pay a premium. In free states that’s a $750-$950 rifle. If you’re looking to cash out gunbroker is the only option. INGO will net you an offer of a Glock of some sort, 4 holsters and 34 rounds of ammo in a bundle.

This. Gunbroker, Arfcom, etc... MD and other socialist survivors would go nuts for a Preban that's not an SCW or Olympic!

Just because it has the restricted stamping doesnt make it preban in any state. The year is what's going to make it preban

Heres a lower on gunbroker buy it now for 475.https://www.gunbroker.com/item/787416181 You can get the uppers for $460 - 520. So since the 2 arent serialized to each other that's the same thing as what you have in my opinion. Sure you can add in shipping and any transfer fees for the lower of you want to get technical but that puts you around $950 for a complete rifle. Ok the lower doesnt jave a stock, add that for $50 big deal so we will say 1k.

If I was a buyer and can find one (a trade in condition like yours) for 1k then that's the max I'm paying if I'm wanting used condition. If I want new in box well thats a whole other ball game I guess.
I'm not a colt collector but I can add what i can see and buy things for so that makes me an informed buyer. Things are always worth what someone is willing to pay. So people who list their guns over retail and are smoking crack, I dont care about their prices when I start shopping. I look at what guns are SELLING for and I buy at that price or below if possible.
I stand by my 800 price. If I owned it and didnt want it gone fast, id List it for 1k. Even at 800 I think in this market yiud sit on it for a while. Good luck. I personaly like the skinny barrel colts the best. I think they look classic and they are just as good as the mil profile barrels unless someone is firing full auto and doesn't know how to use one.

I know a member here on ingo who bought a couple restricted stamped full colt rifles for 550 each and that was this year from another ingo member. I'm not gonna out his name that's his business. But it's not the first restricted stamped colts I've seen selling low. I got rid of one of mine not too long ago and it wasnt easy to sell. The market is soft on guns right now. Collectors want collector grade. Trade ins (even colt with stamps) arent any better than a modern brand new non stamped colt to most people. It's just fact. So the higher priced stamped colts although in my opinion cooler, arent selling well.

OP said model # is 6520, that means it’s a 1988 - 1990 green label or transition blue label rifle which means pre ban.
Regardless of what you may sell or buy at, an informed seller will also do his homework to know what he has and what it will bring in the proper market place. Ban states are the equivalent to Bizzarro World in the comics. Attempting to apply reasoning from your world (or free state) is futile. Ban state economics will make your wallet cry and brain explode. If the OP has a 6520 as he stated, he has a rifle worth some decent coin. Irrelevant is what anyone else would pay for it here, as there is a buyer in Bizzarro World..... I mean a ban state

I mean, I get it, the AR market has bottomed out, but as Rolexrifleman said: It's a preban COMPLETE gun and can bring a higher price to someone in a ban state.

It's a highly desirable model with the retro crowd and minimalist shooters: A2 upper, lightweight chromelined barrel, LEO/GOVT marked, etc... A complete gun, to a ban stater, such as this is hens teeth. Heck, just finding a factory gun in that configuration in a free state is a very difficult proposition.

As for the police trade in aspect: police trade in DPMS, sure, the situation being a police trade in diminishing value is certain. There were a ton of RockRiver police trade ins that everyone wants $600-700 for that aren't worth more than $500 and they sit. But I haven't seen many Colt trade ins, like, only once and it was a weird model. Gander actually somehow got their hands on, and I have one, a CHP Colt Dissipator and I paid $700 for it. But, I could easily turn around and post it on a national board and get some real money out of it for the same reason, Colt, restricted and highly desired due to it's oddity. But if I posted here on INGO, I'd get four trade offers completely unrelated to what I'd want, several lowball offers of $450 and a bunch of tirekickers. I'm just not listing it b/c I love it. lol

That's why I quoted gunbroker. Bizarro states have full bidding access.
Police trade in, there is no way to know its factory original.

I bought one just like yours. Guess Colt calls it a 6520. Colt started calling their ARs, uhh, ARs again. As in AR15A2. Colt does some weird stuff. Bought mine because it had 6 hole handguards and an N1 stock. (retro gold).
