If you need a beater or beginner rifle, for that it's a solid rifle

The trigger will be harsh though, it's not an Axis 2 w/ an accutrigger. The stock trigger on that gun could be 5 pounds.....could be 12lbs

    Yeah - this ^^^.

I think that's the same version I have in .223 and its a good budget rifle. It goes BANG when I pull the trigger and has accuracy that's as reliable as I can shoot for the distances I hunt.

For a longer range 6.5 Creedmore, I'd be a bit suspect of the reach-out-and-touch-someone range. I mean, it very easily COULD be sufficiently accurate at long distances, but that's something I'd want to confirm. Of course, at that price, its a low-risk gamble. :)

For an entry level, no frills rifle, then yes it will be a good rifle. What M67 said is basically true, the trigger will probably need some work. But for an out of the box rifle at that price
it will be hard to beat a Savage. I love them.

Savage has a long reputation for accuracy, even in their "budget" rifles.
If I were looking for an entry level 6.5 Creedmoor I wouldn't hesitate to buy that Savage.

^This^ If you can find an Axis 2 with the accu trigger I would get that instead. I bought my Axis 2 kit in 7mm-08 which came with a Weaver 3x9 scope and mounts for $365.

You can clean up the reg Axis trigger, for cheap. Think I did mine for less than 2 bucks.
    The stock sucks azz.
Get a scope low to line up right and bolt handle will hit.
Get it high enough to clear.............proly need a cheek riser.
You stiffen the stock, trigger job, add cheekpiece...............and you might have a tack driver.
Stock will flex at wrist, and still feels like crap.

I did all that to mine, was shooting half inch groups w factory ammo at 100 yards (.243 win) and I dumped it, for a used 700 ADL.

Old Axis trigger, has a coil spring of two sizes. The smaller coils thread into trigger.
Mine ended up being 10-24 IIRC. Removed spring, used a button head cap screw, up from the bottom (screw head against trigger- not adjustable, just ground to length) as a trigger stop and slid a new coil spring (coils one diameter only), over it. I bashed the rifle quite a bit to test and it proved safe.

Decent trigger without some stupid blade out the front.
Of course I could have dropped in a Rifle Basix for $75

Seemed kinda silly considering the low cost of the rifle.

I made a cheek riser from Kydex, and scalloped my bolt handle too.
Fun enough project rifle............but ti still felt like crap w that stock.
My 700 doesn't shoot as well w factory ammo, but does OK.
I enjoy that rifle much more than the Axis.

If I was to buy a Savage again, I'd go 110, or bargain Stevens 200.

If you're gonna toss it behind the truck seat.......Axis might be your best bet.

Thanks guys. I have never had a bolt action rifle. Just been thinking of getting something to tinker with. I may give one a shot, maybe go 308 or 30-06. Thanks again for input and advice.

I would go with the 30-06, if it were me. Since I reload, I can always load some lower power 30-06 that would be comparable to the 308. Plus most of the time 30-06 is less
    expensive than 308......but I love savage's and 30-06

I have a friend that picked one up on Black Friday. He sighted it in a few days later and loves it. I am sure the trigger, scope, etc is not boutique quality, but for a little over $200, it seems like a great deal.
