The pre-ban AMD-65 rifles are very cool and a fine example of East Bloc built AKs. With the wire side folder and odd length gas system though, they are not the best choice for an all around rifle or for one's first AK. Don't mess with the post ban versions with their weird long barrels.

Does this mean you are looking at a fixed stock FEG variant? Actual per-ban fixed FEG rifles are not very common and would probably be comparable to the others in desirability. But if I were going to be shooting it a bunch I would go with the Arsenal 107 line.

Nice. I was about to buy an Arsenal (prefer stamped for parts and stock options), but thought I might look on an auction site for a Hungarian. Was thinking, which one would be the best quality and best shooter...

I'm not much on folders. I'm sure the 107cr is a top notch product, and would make a great sbr from the looks of it.

I wouldn't consider it unless you go the chop and SBR route. In which case, I would go with the 107UR if going through the hassle.

I would say the FR is a better choice unless you A) don't mind a +/-4" barrel sleeve to cover the exposed barrel, or B) have a 4" brake pinned and welded on. I did this with my 5.56x45mm saiga build and I have a Krebs 103 that has that set-up - a 12.5" barrel with a permanently attached brake.

Nice! What is that perforated mag well? Does that help with magazine retention? Never seen that on an AK.
