    Any Remington followers on here?

I recently traded for a 99% 1100 20g with a double bead short barrel and I was trying to find the year. I believe it to be around 1990. I noticed it does not have the engraving on the receiver but still has LT on the barrel. I like the clean look of the reciever no scrolling or “sporting” Serial #R0009xxxK.

Was also interested if Remington currently marks the barrels with LT. It looks just like a Special field without the straight stock. This one has choke tubes.

Your ejection port has that step on top.
So it is an 1100 LT

Special Field bbls on 1100's are retained by the forend, will switch with regular 1100 barrels.
Special Field guns have shorter magazine tubes/forends.
And on an 870 Special Field........the bbl is held on by the mag cap.
So Special field and regular bbls don't swap on 870's.

I know the 870 Special Fields said "special" on the side.
Forget if the 1100's do. Hunted with one way back when they were fixed choke 21" new.

IIRC the LT bbls are long tang. The LW short tang (maybe last version long tang).
Guys have had LT bbl tangs shortened to work on LW.

    Yours is an LT.

If it has a full length mag tube it's no Special Field.
Short mag tube (Special Field) should go 4 of your rib vents.
5 rib vents means full length mag tube.

Special Field bbls were fixed choke and 21" initially.
Then they went 21" and Remchoke.
Final version was 23" and Remchoke.

Hastings made slug bbls for the 870 Special Fields. Used to see one so equipped in old Cabela's catalogs. Pretty funny.

The 870 Special Fields are quick.
Maybe too quick. They take some getting used to.
The 1100 is a little heavier, might be easier to run.
Man the snow is almost gone.................LT w short bbl in 20 just screams rabbit hunting!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure 1100 Special Fields had no "engraving".
    My 1100 Special Purpose doesn't.
I kinda like the Magnums with the scroll work.

Pulled up a pic off the web, 1100 special field had "special" on the side.
Maybe yours is some non cataloged run? (Remington did that kinda thing).
Maybe that makes it an "extra special field" ;)

The full length mag tube says it isn't a "special field". But who cares?
    Its a darn nice shotgun.
I dunno if the gun is in original form, mixed and matched, a special run or what.
Super clean and a neat little package.

    Enjoy it :)

Very nice looking shotgun. The 1100 series points very nice and shoots softly. If you go to shotgunworld.com and find the forum dedicated
to Remington Shotguns, you will find almost anything you need to know about them. A gentleman with the name Virginian is very knowledgable, and often posts on topics that other folks have asked him specifically. Enjoy that fine looking shotgun.

Have you tried calling remington? I have a LT20 3in mag from my grandfather that they said was made in 1978. It has a 28in full choke barrel.

    Magnum vs standard, on 1100's...........

in the old days the magnums had recoil pads.

They also were advertised as being one hunting gun does it all..........by buying a secondary 2 3/4" chamber bbl.

Magnums run the same receiver as standards, but they have a heavier action sleeve. And the bbls differ in gas ports.
Magnum 12 ga run single port, non magnums run two ports.

I would guess the 20's do the same, but have only owned one LT20 and forget what it had.

One could convert a standard to mag, w sleeve and bbl change..........but magnum action sleeves are not sold by Remington.
You'd have to find one elsewhere, like Numrichs.

I killed a lot of doves running an 1100 Magnum 12 ga w single gas port 30" magnum chamber full choke bbl.
The 1250 FPS WW Superhandicap or Sporting clays loads cycled it just fine.

So a magnum might do it all w Remchoke bbl..............except run the wimpiest of target loads.
    Hey...........its a magnum, came w a recoil pad. Bump it up a bit ;)
