    Cabela's has them on sale in .223, 6.5, .308, and 22-250.

    Check them out.

    I might pick up the .308 despite the 26" barrel. 26" on a .308?

I have three of the "Cabelas Exclusive" rifles to which you refer including a .22-250 currently in the classifieds. They are intended to be a bench/target gun. Thus the long heavy barrel. The polymer stock is a stiffer version of the old Savage "tupperware" which was very flexible. It will be pretty accurate right out of the box but might not be a gun you want to shoot offhand. Although it's relatively light, it will feel muzzle heavy. That's a good buy and should make you a good bench gun in any of the available calibers.

I think these inherently "fixer upper" project guns. You're buying it for the action, and if the barrel and stock aren't truly horrible and might work for you, then bonus.

I have $50 in Bass Pro Gift cards to use up and this is looking mighty tempting. Wish I had some 20% off cards in my pocket as well. I'd like to build a .223 AI and this would be a great donor rifle.

I just bought one in .223.

I'm getting the 6.5CM also when it arrives. (out of stock in N-ville)

The blind magazine will have to go ASAP. But for mostly range use (as intended) it can work.

Now I need a scope base and some other finishing touches.

Nice! My experience with Savages is that accuracy is good right out of the box. These Cabelas models are no exception. We have them in .223, .204, and the .22-250 which I have for sale (yeah, cheap promo). I'm using Sharp Shooter Supply single-shot adapters in mine but there are others available.
