I'm thinking of getting this upper to shoot 180 grain plus ammo at 100 yards. Would this be OK without a suppressor?

Not to be a 'stick-in-the-mud'... be careful with subs out of a 16" 300BO... We have had a 220gr 'stop' about 2" from the muzzle... YMMV and all that... Could have been a light charge...:dunno:

Thanks , I have talked to some people and they agree with you that this is not a good idea.

180 gn out to 100 yards...why not 308? If it is to mate to an existing lower, 6.5 Grendel. 300 bo seems like the wrong tool for the job. Now if you're not hung up on 180 gn boolits, 110 -125 would be great.

Tried the 16" .300 blackout route, heck, I wanted to make an A4 20" but in .300 blackout to be weird, but I got stuck components as well with the 16". First of my handloads, I thought, "Whoa! That's really quiet without a supressor! Why would I...Oh, wait...nothing hit the backer..." Spent 15 minutes hammering that thing out. Changed powders (right? Because maybe I got it wrong with H110, I'll try 4198!). Wrong. Worse. :D Stayed with an 8" and with subs its quiet and NOWHERE near as blasty and loud as my 10.5" 5.56 with supers.

I'd agree if supersonic, but context seems that he is asking about subs rather than supersonics. In a bolt gun, I would highly suggest .308 over .300 for even subs, because .308 gives you a LOT more versatility than .300.
