Just curious what the best groups you have achieved in a Rem 5R platform. I have a 25th anniversary edition in 308 that has shot .375 MOA with Amax 168’s. Working on SMK 175 loads now but still have a way to go as it’s lowest so far with Varget and the 175 smk is .43 moa (5shot groups).

Anyone have one in 223 or other calibers ? Love to get one in 223 if they shoot well...

Although it was not a 5R barrel, my Remington 700 Police was my best shooter by a country mile. I knew that I was having a bad shooting day if I shot a .5" group.

I figured that if I ever do get another bolt gun that I would try a 5R barrel.

This rifle just loved GMM 168s.

The above information is pertinent since Remington has made some major changes since I bought this 700 Police with a 1:12 twist. Most are now shipped with .308 barrels that are 1:10 twist, with 5R rifling. The faster twist is to stabilize the heavier LR pills, and the 5R should allow for a slightly higher velocity. i don't believe that Remington would move to the 5R rifling if they could not achieve the same accuracy results. Wow!!!

Wow! Nice shooting! Not there yet...at least I’m not there yet. Backed up my 100 yard target with this one from 200 yards. Working on less neck tension and trying volume weight sorting...we’ll see.

300blk 700aac 5r. This was the best group I got all day at 100yds. I'm experimenting trying to find a good round for it. Subsonic rounds were 2moa at best.

    Improving

Made a little more progress this weekend. Down to .28. MOA. Changes: Annealed (Annealeez) brass, and first time loads with Nosler Custom Competition 175’s. Just tried a load I had used with the SMK’s. Gotta load more with this combo and see what is just me in this group size!

How does modifying neck tension affect the accuracy, is there some degree of more energy transferred to the bullet?

I think the thought is you want it as low, even, and consistent as possible so the bullet starts down the bore as consistently as possible. Even, consistent release is also the reason for measuring and improving run out to make sure it starts in line with the bore axis (i.e. reason for neck turning).

Pretty darn good group! I would definitely test more of that load too.

Have 5R 6.5 Grendel 20" barrel. Smallest I shot was .438 5 shot group with Hornady 123gr SST reloads at 100 yards. Hornady Black 123gr shoot about the same just over half moa at 100 yards 5 shot groups.
I'm going to try out them Speer 90hr TnT next see if all the hype is for real.

Oh and cleaning the bore is much easier it seems as advertised.

My experience with Speer TNT is that they aren't as accurate as sst, but they're cheaper and do a good job on coyotes. My experience is limited to factory loads, so you might get different results.

What brand is your barrel? Think 6.5 Grendal will be my next build.
