I have a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 ga shotgun circa 1975. I have the original stock/forearm and an aftermarket Monte Carlo nylon stock/forearm. The wood stock has factory dimensions with no modifications. The wood is 95% and the bluing on the receiver is 98% or better. I have a 26” ventilated rib choke tube barrel. One aftermarket turkey choke and three Remington screw in chokes tubes. I also have a 24” Hastings rifled cantilevered barrel with a 3x9 Simmons BDC scope mounted on it. With the correct Remington saboted shells it will shoot 2” groups from the bench at 100 yards. I have 6 boxes of the aforementioned Remington slugs.

I used the gun for several years in deer season before rifles became legal in Indiana and a few turkey hunts. I havenÂ’t shot the gun in several years and it has just set in my gun cabinet. My friend has expressed interest in buying the whole set up - lock, stock, and barrel(s), so to speak, including the ammo. IÂ’m struggling to come up with a fair price. I donÂ’t want to give the gun away but I also want to price it fairly to my friend. I have seen occasional ads for current Remington 870 shotguns but the models are bare bones with ugly plain stained wood stocks, parkerized receivers, and bead front sight only. They are a cheap version, in my opinion, of the mid 1970Â’s model of the Remington 870 that I have. On the flip side, a lot of folks donÂ’t give a whit about nice bluing, figured wood, etc. They just want a gun to go bang.

    So. . . . . . . . What would be a fair price for everything ?

    Thanks in advance.

Back in the day you'd have 350.00 to 450.00 in a combo like that. Given that it's not 1978 anymore, and things do depreciate, I'd ask somewhat less. The big question is how good of a friend this is. If it were a boon companion, I might give it to him, or make a token price. If an acquaintance, I'd take 20 or 30 percent off of what my average price would be. Otherwise I guess it's up to you!

    My thoughts.
I have done this in the past. Just given it to a dear friend as a gift especially if our friendship was based on such things.

You can buy a brand new one on Sportsmans Outdoors for 720.00
Of course this is without all the aforementioned add on`s.
Depreciation for higher end guns seems to be at around 25-30 % YOY.
Factor in the friend piece and give him or her a great deal.

. Ultimately, your choice. Real friend? Guy who fires up the car at 0300 with bail money? Just give it to him.

Just add $100 for every time you called and he didn't show.

    Brutal, but honest!

. A friend might listen to your problems but a true friend has a backhoe and will help you move/hide those issues.....

That's a free shotgun friend right there!

PCR and HP rifle have killed the slug gun market.

Rifled bbls while great for deer, suck for anything else. Hard sell on a rig or as an accessory.

Everybody these days wants camo or matte, and magnum.

    Just the way it is.

Its a used rig, and mix and matched...............nothing wrong with that, but it's not "factory" and that hurts it on the open market.

    What would I do?

How good a friend is he? We all have various levels of friendship.

Are you trying to get a buddy into hunting or are you trying to get a hunting buddy?

Do you need space in the safe?
Are you looking for a new rifle scope?
    Let that influence your pricing.
    Or not.
    I have very few friends.
    Unlike some people.

    Just not the social type.
Have some acquaintances I've cut good deals to.

Its just money and in the long run that doesn't mean much.
Have had folks insult me w selling prices, or offers of buying my stuff.
Tells you a lot about their character.

The secret, is not being a jerk when you go to buy or sell.
    Can't make other people decent.

    Worry about yourself only.

No matter what you do, somebody sometime might get butthurt.

    Can't make everybody happy.

Typically, you lose money selling to friends.
Want an honest break even or profit..........sell to strangers.

Hell I still do biz w a handshake.
Been screwed a few times, a lot of men aint men anymore.........but old farts are still cool.
