I tried a couple different strap on versions last year, before I settled on the neoprene Beartooth. I use the version without ammo holders and was very happy with it for shooting prone in long range 22 matches.

Recently bought a Thompson Center .308 and looking for a cheek rest also. How does leather work in dry, cold, wet or icy conditions? Is one type of material better than another?

This weapon is not a range toy or a bench rest shooter. It will be used in the field.

I think the leather would look better especially on a wood stock but from a strictly practical standpoint I'd avoid it. With synthetics if it gets wet, take it off and let it dry; get it filthy dirty, throw it in the washer.
