Let me guess, you refer to Glocks as junk too?

You sound just like the ANTI GUN news reports that take some thing and twist and turn it with something else.

Where in my statement did I mention (GLOCK)?

Some many of our troops in Vietnam died because their NEW M-16 malfunction.
Why very poor quality. The people above knew about the problem.
But cost was more of the consideration.

Why very poor quality. The people above knew about the problem.
But cost was more of the consideration.

The primary problem was the ammunition initially issued. They tried to cut costs by switching to a powder they had in bulk that had the incorrect pressure curve for the cartridge.

Compounding this issue, the gun's specifications called for a chrome lined chamber, which they decided to ignore and issued them with unlined barrels. This resulted in corroding chambers causing stuck casings and all manner of headaches.

Stoner's design is the greatest rifle design in human history. The military nearly killed it, though. Eventually they finally acknowledged the requirements he outlined, and as you can see, the rifle is becoming one of the longest serving arms in history.

The only reason it is the longest serving rifle is that the Government officials refuse to pay for better equipment.
There have been many better rifles presented that are far superior.
They replaced the M-14 and later brought it back because of special needs.

The M14 is the worst rifle the US military has ever adopted, and it is the shortest serving firearm we've ever had, for good reason.

The M14 was just what we had in inventory so they tried to accurize them with varying levels of success in the GWOT. It was needed due to the stretched out ranges we found ourselves facing. Now they're getting pretty well phased out by variations of the knights SR25 which is an AR10 and is a vastly superior rifle.
