I shoot most of mine offhand so like a 4x.
Currently hunting for another old Leupold gloss compact. Scored a mint one 2 yrs ago for 175.
Its on my 35 rem rifle.
I have used Weaver and Leupold in the past on a CZ 452 American. Those scopes are now on other rifles, but I recently purchased a Nikon Prostaff Target EFR 3x9x40 AO for the CZ 452 and it is a very good scope at a very good price.
I've run Leupold EFR 3-9X, Freedom EFR 3-9X and Vari XII 4-12X AO.
AO is nice for target and even hunting, but most of my shots offhand and above 6X I pretty much need a rest.
Am super comfy with a 4X.
Yeah, sometimes I want more mag, but then I get minimal wobble.
Nothing is for free.
I had a 2-7X on my 10/22 sporter and kept it on 4X.
Another had a VX3 2.5-8X, and I couldn't run it from the bench at 50 yards above 6X due to focus/parallax.
A big game scope can work, even at 25 yards, if a 4X.
Of course, Leupold will change the parallax for $25 plus shipping.
So if you have a scope laying around ya might want to convert it to a rimfire.
Had a 4X rimfire, newest version. It had a short tube and looked crappy on my 10/22 international.
A bit longer scope looks better and may offer more adaptability w rings/base type and spacing.
I dunno if I'll peel the 2-7X off my CZ455 and put it on my 760 in .35 rem, move the 4X from it to the .22rf.
2X is dandy on deer movers up close, but I have no use for that on a rimfire bolt rig.
Another 2-7x fan. I like the 2x early in the fall, makes it easier to keep them in view while they're running and waiting for them to stop long enough to get a shot. The 7x is handy later after the leaves fall when trying to see if its a squirrel's noggin or a lump on a limb.
