You should be good 2 go. may want to review some build videos or instructions to get familiar with the basic process of putting together correctly. Good luck.

If you have a bench vise or something similar, a plastic vise block that goes into the magazine well of the lower receiver will make it much easier to hold your lower in place when you tighten down the castle nut on the receiver extension tube.

Probably will want to get a small riser for the red dot. Without one, it'll be sitting so low that it will be hard to get a good cheek weld.

I use a Magpul BevBlock in my bench mounted vise. They can be a little pricy, but you might be able to catch a deal on one. There are other cheaper “clamshell” type ones out there as well.

I believe this is the type of riser you’d be looking for. UTG Med-pro Compact Riser Mount, 0.83" High, 3 Slots https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003TX2BD4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VbwdEbHH0CB2J
having said that, with the riser, you’re getting close to a Romeo5 or Holosun lower end red dot. If you wanted to splurge, I’d go for one of those. If you’re happy with the Bushnell, go for the riser.

Another suggestion. As a noob builder, build from scratch on the lower, but buy a complete upper. (provided you can find what you want) The upper build requires more specialized tools. There are no shortage of complete uppers.

I have a tool that slides into the BCG channel and locks into the barrel. I use it over a block. It is a positive hold when doing the torque on the barrel nut.

Yep. If he's gonna use a Palmetto barrel anyway, hard to beat the pricing for their whole upper. Shop for the configuration you want and wait for them to daily special it.

I just might have one on the way myself??? ;)

When using the punch to drive in bolt release put a layer of tape on the lower, this will prevent the punch from scratching the lower, or if you miss the the hole.
I also like to keep scrib near by for all the small springs and detents...
Enjoy the build and have fun doing it

This is great advice for a first time builder.

A lower receiver vise block really doesn't have to do to much to be functional. I use one sold by Brownells that costs around $25, but if you have not already placed your order with PSA I would just add this to it:

    https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-custom-series-ar-15-lower-receiver-vice-block-778132.html

I concur with scottka in that if you find you are going to pay close to $80 for a Bushnell TRS-25 and a suitable riser, I would throw in another $40 and buy a SIG Romeo 5 instead. You can get one from PSA for $119.99. I own and have used both the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 and I own three SIG Romeo 5 red dot sights so I know their relative merits.

The TRS-25 is not at all bad for its price range, but the Romeo 5 is considerably nicer. The dot is closer to a true 2 MOA with less tendency to starburst at higher intensity settings and the motion-detection instant-on feature works very well. With the MOTAC you do not need to turn the sight illumination on and dial up the intensity every time you want to use it. And the Romeo 5 comes with a riser that will provide an exact co-witness with AR flip-up sights if you decide to use them.

Get you a roll pin starter punch set, you can get by without them but are really handy getting them started. Also I recommend a punch block. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1016339811

Its always good to support whatever you're driving your punch into. Usually those horror stories you here of people snapping the ears of the trigger guard with knocking the punch in, is because it isn't supported from behind. You generally have a sharp corner down in there, sharp corners can split easy.. Any bending and that corner will open right up.

Right punches and right support you'll be fine.. Done 100s this way never broke one yet. KNOCK ON WOOD! lol

Just my 2 cents, best of luck!

This tool. Brownells sells them. To me it is a much better way to set torque on a barrel nut

    https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-...-barrel-extension-torque-tools-prod27452.aspx

    Looks good. ;)

The only reason I sprung for the Super Reaction Rod was because it was said to be better for barrels "with over torqued, seized or Loctited barrel nuts." than the standard reaction rod.
So far I've just used it as a standard reaction rod without the "pre-loading system" for doing builds.

BUT, I have an older 6.8 SPC Bushmaster that I plan to sometime replace the barrel with the updated 6.8 SPC II.
I'd heard that Bushmaster sometimes has very hard to remove barrel nuts.
So I got the Super Reaction Rod to be on the safe side if I needed it.

The linked tool has a 1/2" ratchet receiver in the tail. It makes for a very solid and most positive way to break them down and set torque on reassembly.
