You should be good 2 go. may want to review some build videos or instructions to get familiar with the basic process of putting together correctly. Good luck.

If you have a bench vise or something similar, a plastic vise block that goes into the magazine well of the lower receiver will make it much easier to hold your lower in place when you tighten down the castle nut on the receiver extension tube.

Probably will want to get a small riser for the red dot. Without one, it'll be sitting so low that it will be hard to get a good cheek weld.

I use a Magpul BevBlock in my bench mounted vise. They can be a little pricy, but you might be able to catch a deal on one. There are other cheaper “clamshell” type ones out there as well.

I believe this is the type of riser you’d be looking for. UTG Med-pro Compact Riser Mount, 0.83" High, 3 Slots https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003TX2BD4..._VbwdEbHH0CB2J
having said that, with the riser, you’re getting close to a Romeo5 or Holosun lower end red dot. If you wanted to splurge, I’d go for one of those. If you’re happy with the Bushnell, go for the riser.

Another suggestion. As a noob builder, build from scratch on the lower, but buy a complete upper. (provided you can find what you want) The upper build requires more specialized tools. There are no shortage of complete uppers.

I have a tool that slides into the BCG channel and locks into the barrel. I use it over a block. It is a positive hold when doing the torque on the barrel nut.

Yep. If he's gonna use a Palmetto barrel anyway, hard to beat the pricing for their whole upper. Shop for the configuration you want and wait for them to daily special it.

I just might have one on the way myself???

The kit he's looking at comes with a complete upper.
