    • Thank you for your e-mail to Governor Daniels regarding clarification of Indiana law involving the carrying of firearms. He appreciates the time you took to share your comments and has asked me to respond on his behalf.

As the Assistant Commander of the Indiana State Police Records Division, addressing requests such as yours is one of my primary objectives. After reviewing your correspondence, I see that IC 35-47-2-1 and IC 35-47-2-2 do not allow the transportation of a firearm from your dwelling to some else's place of business. However, the statues do allow the transportation from your dwelling to your own place of business.

A limited license to carry a handgun (hunting and target) or an unlimited license (personal protection) issued under IC 35-47-2-4 will allow you to transport a firearm to the firing range. I am scanning and sending the full language of IC 35-47-2-1, IC 35-47-2-2 and IC 35-47-2-4 as a separate e-mail for your reference.

Please do not hesitate to contact Governor Daniels or the Indiana State Police Firearms Section at (317)232-8264 with future questions or concerns.

      Sincerely,

      Ruben Marte', Captain
      Assistant Commander
      Indiana State Police Records Division
