15 partially frozen shooters defended our city from an invasion of evil bowling pins, today.
The sub-freezing temperatures were particularly brutal on the pins.
The plastic coating separated from the pins in large sections often traveling more than 30 feet.
Large chunks of wood were scattered in multiple directions.
Slivers of maple littered the landscape after the first few shots.
Sleep well tonight, Indianapolis, the evil bowling pins were vanquished.

One shooter cleared the table with 4 shots. 5 pins with 4 bullets.
Wish we had that one on video.

Thanks to those of you who came out to play - safely.

    jblomenberg16,
Maybe they had a little zombie in them, they kept getting back up until unable to stand.
The totally dead ones ended up in a locked dumpster.
I have no idea if its zombie proof.

    Jack Ryan,
If I told you, I'd have to kill you. LOL
Actually, we get our from generous bowling pin alleys who just like to get rid of them. We haul them out and away for free.
Some alleys participate in a recycle program and are less likely to cooperate.
Some alleys want to sell them to you.We have not had to pay yet.
Go to your local alley and ask the manager.
Sometimes they are happy to get rid of them. Sometimes not.

We eventually built steel table for the pins shoots,
but plywood fully supported and placed on top of saw horses works too.

Careful: the sturgeon general advises that bowling pins shooting is addictive.

I know that for sure, to late though. It's been probably 15 years since I shot on a league where we were shooting them once in a while and still get the urge.

Come on Jack, lets do it!
It's been even longer for me. But...
...I've had a bit of coaching lately and I have a lot of ambition. I'm coming back, what about you sir?

My biggest problem is time to go any where.

That's why I'm trying to find some place to get pins to just have here to have friends come over for "back yard" tournements and to introduce people in this area to the sport. May be get it going a little around here.

I've thought about just cutting up fire wood to the aproximate size and do the same thing. There's probably only a couple bowling alleys with in 50 miles of here and every where I've ask the first thing out of their mouths is "How much will you give me for them?" When they ask that, you may just as well walk away if you are just going to shoot them up for targets and then burn them when they aren't good for that any more.

Nothing like watching a pin splatter when it's hit with a 44 or 45 though. Nothing illustrates the difference between a pocket gun that's "better than nothing" and a real gun than watching them try to get a bowling pin off a table 15 feet away with a 380.

Jack, if you get some pins and want to have a shoot, let me know. Otherwise, there'll be shoots at Martinsville and MCF&G next year. I'm planning on attending some of them, so lets go.

Martinsville sounds like something I could do no matter what the situation is at work.

Will you post a notice or something a few days before?

even though we shot steel targets rather than pins(on account of the rain) it was still a first for me and I had a real good time, nice to meet you guys.
