3 Gun rules question regarding shotgun.

If my shotgun has a ported barrel it puts me in open division. Can I tape over/block the porting and shoot the gun in tactical division?

You don't know what kind of tape I have. I have tape that would hold up. Removing it would definitely effect the finish of the barrel.


also I know i could just buy a barrel but I want to avoid that for now....

If you cover up the ports and they stay covered during the match then the ports will not bump you to open.

I bought some brass shim stock from Lowe's and cut it to fit under my Nordic clamp. It worked for about 600 rounds before the gasses cut it out around the clamp. I've since bought some aluminum shim stock and it's held up for over 1200 rounds and still looks fine.

The issue isn't what materials you have access to, it is the possibility that the ports will open on their own... Your best bet is to either have someone weld them closed or sell your current barrel and buy a non-ported one... I am speaking from experience when I say that you don't want to get bumped to open in the middle of a match...

As others have said, if you can cover it and they STAY covered for the match, you are god to go. If they open up mid match, you'll be in Open for the day.
