At least 150 rounds, if you never miss. [You will miss so bring extra ammo!]

    Other Equipment Needed:

Holster, belt, mag pouches, and extra mags for centerfire handguns.
Extra mags for rimfire rifle, pistol caliber carbine rifle, and rimfire pistol (shot from low-ready position so no holster needed).

Each shooter will shoot each stage 5 times, with the best 4 runs counting for score. Missed plates or late shots incur a 3 second penalty each. The match will generally consist of 5 or 6 such stages. Since there is no steel to reset, stages run quickly with squads simply needing to put fresh paint on the targets between shooters (and pick up brass if desired).

Most of you probably know that work is in progress at Red Brush to add some new bays. The good news is that once they are finished we will have no problems shooting 6 stages at our matches. The bad news is that there is about a month and a half worth of work left to complete the bays. We will be limited to 4 bays and 4 stages at our March 12 match, and maybe for the April match as well.

Since we will be condensing our number of squads to 4 we will have to establish a few conditional rules...
We will have to limit every shooter to 1 gun.
We are limiting the amount of shooters per squad to 17 (68 total shooters). There will surely be more standing around time with so many shooters per squad, so be prepared for it.

Registration for the March 12, 2017 Red Brush Steel match is now open at https://practiscore.com/red-brush-steel-2017-03/register. It will be a 4 stage match with 4 squads. The match is limited to 68 shooters (17 shooters in each squad).

There was a whole lot of confusion last year concerning the shooting divisions and categories. Please refer to the info that I am providing below and do your best to sign up in the proper division and categories. This will make for much easier check in on match day. As always, if you need to alter your division, squad, etc., please use the direct link sent to you in your registration confirmation email. The link will allow you to edit your registration data, see who is in each squad, etc. Please do not just re-register with new info, leaving us wondering which is the current and which is the outdated registration.

Final check-in and payment will be done at Red Brush on match day beginning at 8:00AM.

YOU MUST CHECK-IN AND PAY AT RED BRUSH PRIOR TO 8:50AM IN ORDER TO SHOOT IN THE MATCH!

There will be a new shooters meeting at 8:30am. If you have never shot this match before then please arrive early enough to attend this meeting!

    The match starts at 9:00AM.

    NOTE:
Every Rimfire Pistol (RFPO or RFPI) will be required to have the bolt locked open, a chamber flag inserted, and be bagged / cased between stages.
Every Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCCO or PCCI) or Rimfire Rifle (RFRO or RFRI) will be required to have a chamber flag inserted, be carried with the barrel pointing up, and be bagged or placed in a carrier rack between stages.
We will provide you with a chamber flag if you do not have one.

I am going to call Pete and my first time running the match a limited success with room for improvement. Many thanks to everyone who helped set up, take down, keep score, RO, paint targets, and everything else involved with keeping the match running. It would not have been possible without your continued efforts.

After all the withdrawals and no-shows we ended up having 32 people who braved the frigid and windy weather to shoot in the match today. The results are online at...

The next match will be April 9, 2017. I am holding on to a tiny smidgen of hope that the new bays will be completed by then which would allow us to have 5 or maybe even 6 stages. If the work is not complete then we will be limited to 4 stages again.

As always, please send any questions or comments to...

The work on the new bays at Red Brush is still in progress. We will be limited to 4 bays and 4 stages at our April 09 match. Since we will be condensing our number of squads to 4 we will have to establish a few conditional rules...

We will have to limit every shooter to 1 gun.

We are setting the initial limit of shooters per squad at 10 due to large numbers of shooters signing up in some squads, leaving other squads near empty. The low number of available slots per squad will hopefully prevent us from having to shuffle a large number of shooters between squads to even them out. We can add more available slots to the squads if needed once the initial limit is near capacity. If you have a group of people to sign up and there is not enough room for all of you in one squad then please email me and we will try our best to accommodate you.

    NOTE: SIGN UP EARLY!
We must keep the number of shooters per squad somewhat even in order to prevent bottleneck situations that would hinder the progress of the match. We will do our best to keep you in the squad that you signed up for. However, keep in mind that signing up for a particular squad does not guarantee your place to shoot on that squad. We plan to give priority of staying put based on the timing of the sign ups. Last to sign up, first to move. There may be some exceptions to this rule to accommodate shooters who sign up as a group. We don't want to split up your group any more than you want to be split up.

Registration for the April 09, 2017 Red Brush Steel match is now open at https://practiscore.com/red-brush-steel-2017-04/register. It will be a 4 stage match with 4 squads. The online registration is limited to 60 shooters (15 shooters in each squad).

If you have signed up and can not make it to the match for some reason then please use your direct link to withdraw, or send me an email to let us know that you can not make it to the match so that we are not waiting for you to arrive on match day.

Final check-in and payment will be done at Red Brush on match day beginning at 8:00AM.

Well, it was great to see that we once in a while do get great weather for a Red Brush Steel match! We had 51 shooters. There were a few hiccups on my squad, including an unnamed match director who shot the stop plate prematurely on two occasions. However, the match seemed to run fairly smoothly from my perspective. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did!

The next match will be May 14, 2017. Again, I am holding on to a tiny smidgen of hope that the new bays will be completed by then which would allow us to have 5 or maybe even 6 stages and smaller squads, meaning less standing around time and more lead downrange. If the work is not complete by then we will be limited to 4 stages again. Online registration will open on Friday April 28 and will end on Saturday May 13 at 8:00pm giving everyone two weeks to sign up online. I would advise everyone to use the online registration as open slots will remain limited as long as we have only 4 bays available to us.

The work on the new bays at Red Brush should soon be completed. In fact, we may have access to them at the May 14 match. The bad news is that the gravel is not scheduled to be laid until May 13 the day before our match, meaning that we won't know for sure until match day if the work has been completed.

The uncertainty of having only 4 bays available to us versus 5 or 6 available bays prevents us from offering 5 or 6 squads for online registration. Thus, we are offering online registration as if we will be limited to 4 bays and 4 stages at our May 14 match. If it does come to fruition that we have more bays available to us then we will add a 5th stage for the 4 squads to shoot. No, this solution is not ideal. However, after a brief discussion we came to the conclusion that it beats breaking apart every squad on match day to rearrange them into 5 somewhat equal squads, and it also beats waiting until match day to register 60 someodd shooters on the mere hope of the work being completed.

We are setting the initial limit of shooters per squad at 10 due to large numbers of shooters signing up in some squads, leaving other squads near empty. The low number of available slots per squad will hopefully prevent us from having to shuffle a large number of shooters between squads to even them out. I have some good news to report. (Wait for it................) The new bays are complete and ready for use! YAAAYYY!!! It is my understanding that the new bays will be numbered as you turn the corner starting with 6, 7, 8, 9, and ending at 10.

This means that we are no longer limited to 4 stages. The June 11 match will instead have 6 stages and 6 squads. This should provide for less standing around and more lead downrange. Please be aware that completing the match will require at least 150 rounds of ammo if you never miss. You will have some misses, so be sure to bring enough ammo to complete the match.

Registration for the June 11, 2017 Red Brush Steel match is now open at https://practiscore.com/red-brush-steel-2017-06/register. It will be a 6 stage match with 6 squads. The online registration is initially limited to 60 shooters (10 shooters in each squad) but can be adjusted as needed if the squads reach full capacity.

Since we will be leaving Bay 1 open for members, we will be congregating before the match at the pole shelter adjacent to the members room where we do the sign in, and we will be having our pre-match meeting there. There will be a safe area at Bay 5 (Funhouse) if you need to make adjustments to your guns or equipment.

    NOTE:
On a trial basis... we will be permitting all competitors to shoot two guns, provided that the guns are in different divisions and only one of them requires a holster. If allowing this causes us to turn potential shooters away, creates bottlenecks, or hinders the match in any way then we will be forced to return to the previous rule of allowing only each squad's primary RO to shoot two guns.

To all shooters of Red Brush Steel:

We have decided to set the maximum capacity for the June 11 2017 match at 72 shooters. The cap is based on this being our first match having 6 squads and 6 stages and us not knowing how long it will take to complete such a match. There are currently 69 shooters signed up meaning that there are only 3 open spots remaining. This will most likely preclude us from accepting walk-ins on match day, that is unless some shooters withdraw.

Please do not no-show on match day! If you have signed up and can not make it to the match for some reason then please use your direct link to withdraw, or send me an email to let us know that you can not make it to the match so that we are not waiting for you to arrive on match day and reserving a spot for you that someone else could fill.

To all shooters of Red Brush Steel:

We will be shooting the July 09, 2017 match on the old bays due to some concerns that we had with using the new bays.

The main problem with the new bays was what seemed to be an extreme amount of lead splatter coming back on the participants and spectators. Whatever the cause may be (i.e. concrete walls, no overhead shelter, wind direction, etc...) the amount of splatter was way more than usual. We are in the process of getting some adapters made which will hold our steel plates at more of a downward angle and thus direct more of the splatter to the ground. We did try an improvised version of this and it seemed to help considerably. We will reevaluate the splatter problem once our plate adapters have been completed and tested.

The proximity of the bathroom, lack of overhead shelter, no seating, and the uncompacted large gravel also played a role in us moving to the old bays until our concerns are addressed.

The July 09 match will have 5 stages and 5 squads. The match will require at least 125 rounds of ammo if you never miss. You will have some misses, so be sure to bring enough ammo to complete the match.

We are setting the initial limit of shooters per squad at 10 due to large numbers of shooters signing up in some squads, leaving other squads near empty. To all shooters of Red Brush Steel:

Registration for the August 13, 2017 Red Brush Steel match is now open at https://practiscore.com/red-brush-steel-2017-08/register. It will be a 5 stage match with 5 squads. The online registration is initially limited to 50 shooters (10 shooters in each squad) but can be adjusted as needed if the squads reach full capacity.

    NOTES:

1 - The match will be limited to 60 shooters, 1 gun per shooter. We can not accommodate more than that without extended match times.

2 - All match registration should be done online at PractiScore.com. This will help to keep us from having to turn away any unregistered walk-ins on match day should the match fill to capacity.

3 - We will accept walk-in registrations only if there are less than 60 shooters who have pre-registered online. We will not accept any walk-ins once all 60 spots are filled. The fee for a walk-in registration will be $10 per shooter, no exceptions.
We would hate to turn anyone away! Please register online to secure a spot in the match!

4 - Anyone withdrawing from the match must do so before 8:00 PM the Friday before the match. This will allow 24 hours for someone to fill your vacated spot. You can withdraw by using the personal match management link that is sent to you when you register, or by sending an email to RedBrushSteel@hotmail.com stating your intention to withdraw from the match. Anyone who does not notify us of their withdrawal from the match before the allotted time will not be permitted to shoot the following match. This may sound harsh but it is unfair for someone to hold on to a spot that another person could fill while knowing that they will not be able to make it to the match.

5 - Every Rimfire Pistol (RFPO or RFPI) will be required to have the bolt locked open, a chamber flag inserted, and be bagged / cased between stages.

We will be congregating before the match at Bay 1. There will be a safe area at Bay 1 if you need to make adjustments to your guns or equipment.
