Is there any guidance for first time shooters? Wanting to come Sat but have no idea really what I'm getting into.
People will assist you. Main thing for you to know is to arrive with your gun unloaded and in a holster or a bag. Tell someone it's your first time and they will tell you how to proceed. We could go over it here, but it's easier in person.

I recommend bringing 300 rounds, and 5 mags.

Yeah, everybody is really helpful. I have been to 3 of these now, with my 4th one coming up on Saturday. I was amazed how patient and tolerant they were of me as an old man coming to my first steel match!

As @longbeard says, you need to have 5 mags. It is not 100% necessary, but honestly, it really is. You shoot 5 strings at each stage, and you need a mag for each string. They will not wait for you to reload as there are other shooters waiting to go.
