I have never attended a FNS event but am definitely interested. Can someone give me a rundown of how it works? Im not looking for every detail, just a big picture overview.

What type of guns are typically used for the event and are there any limitations?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Looks like a blast.

Is the weapon type unlimited? I saw a few videos or people using long guns. Obviously they dont have 5 loaded mags for those (lever action anyway).

Are the shooters put into different classes or all one group?

Last question: How long does it typically take to complete?

    Thanks again for the scoop.

There are several divisions similar to USPSA, depending on the number of shooters usually finish at 830 or 9 pm.

This a fun competition, and a good gateway into more organized competition. That being said, it's an "outlaw" thing, and there are no classes. Everyone shoots, and their total time to shoot makes their score for the night. There are no trophies or awards. Only bragging rights which are soon forgotten. You only need to be a safe shooter to participate.

You will shoot 3 strings at each stage. Generally 5 stages. Each stage is *generally* a 5-6 shot array of steel targets. You should bring 200 rounds to be safe. Plate racks are used and can consume a lot of ammo until you get the hang of it.

You need a pistol caliber or rimfire gun. Semi-automatic or revolver. Lever action are discouraged in my book because watching someone reload their rifle 15 times in one night takes too long. That's just my opinion =)

If you want to use a pistol: A full size pistol is recommended if you have it. Smaller pistols are welcome, but it will be more difficult to use one. As you gain experience you may enjoy the challenge of a smaller gun.
Long guns used are typical rimfire rifles or pistol caliber carbines. With or without optics. No suppressors as far as I know, but you are fine with an SBR. Note there is no AR pistol division.

You may bring multiple guns and shoot one at each stage if you want.

Come out and have some fun. Hope this helps.

^^^Thanks^^^^; good write up for someone that doesn't know the Alphabet Soup of shooting disciples. Lever Action Guns are not allowed. Suppressors are allowed long as you don't complain when the shot timer doesn't pick up your shots.
