RCC is hosting a 22 Rifle Long Range event we're going to call the Fall Classic. This event will be a composite of our other formats and also include additional stages such as Know Your Limits (KYL), Call the Shot, Shootoff Rack, and we'll utilize some odd shaped targets. This event will have 6 stages (and 6 squads) and is expected to run 5-6 hours, we're doubling the stages and round count. Approximately 110 shot count, 131 point possible. We will use a combination of swingers and knockdown (rope reset) targets. All shooters will fire at all targets at 75, 110 165 200 yards. We will not shoot two classes, all shooters are grouped together.

Plaques to be awarded to top finishers as well as High Lady & High Junior. Bring your lunch, snacks, favorite beverages. Bottled water and pop is available in the clubhouse.

Reminder, what is "Call the Shot?"

Kudos to you for continuing to improve the shoot...sounds like it will be a real humdinger with lots of trigger time.

Call the Shot has 8 shots in 4 minutes. Before the fire command, shooter draws blind card with his designated targets, gives it to RO. At start signal, RO announces first target, then announces subsequent targets every 30 seconds. Even if you get on target & fire quickly, shooter still has to wait for next target..

Guys using holdover optics have advantage, perhaps their time allowance should be 3 minutes?

Shots are at differing distances, so you feel rushed to find the correct target (remember, there will be dozens out there) and fire before the next target is called. Taking you out of your comfort zone is part of the challenge.

RCC is going to be busy Saturday! Is it normal there to have several events going on at the same time on the same day?

    I know of 3 now.

Brian- there will be an 8 minute sight in period immediately prior to your first shots for score. Use it widely.

Gregkl- yes, we are capable. 5 years ago we rebuilt with the intention of being a simultaneous, multi-use facility. With 8 bays plus the rifle range, we can do this and still have bays open for our members.

Note: this is a result of the forward thinking RCC officers & board members that took over the club 11 years ago. Dream it, plan it, discuss the pros & cons, make it happen.

    Thanks for the info Rich.

And yes the Riley Range is getting better all the time. The officers must have consulted with some really smart people. LOL, you all are doing great.

Set up & practice went well tonight. I plan on streamlining the 75 yard targets & backstop so they will take a minimum of time to set up. We had a dry run, it looks like everything will work out tomorrow. Gonna be fun, if you didn't plan on coming, this is your loss!!!!

It actually happens semi regularly. We finished up in bay 7 and drove out past the other 2 events and members shooting. It was nice to see the range being put to that much use.

Wind did not make thing easy but it was a fun match. Everything ran smoothly with minimum downtime, great job! Not painting the targets after each shooter definitely moved things along.

    .22 Rifle Long Range Silhouette
    Fall Classic
    Sept 21, 2019

We had a good turnout for this specialty match. Today’s format was unlike others, a lot more complex with 6 different stages to test your marksmanship skills. This match was designed to be difficult and challenge both your technical skills as well as your mental patience. Twelve total segments, 3 of them were a modified Know Your Limits and the others were a combination of 5 in a row targets at varying distances, as well as the deceptively difficult “Call the Shot” stage. We brought out an old silhouette shootoff rack and pressed it into duty with some SMALL targets.

From first sighters to final shot, this event ran (as predicted) a bit under six hours. We had a dedicated target painter (much needed and appreciated) and shooters tipped him well. While the match was lengthy, there was precious little down time as folks stepped up into spotting and scoring chores, keeping nearly everyone busy with something most of the time. Teardown was completed in under 30 minutes while Bill tabulated scores.

    Highlights
Andriy Leknyak (Armchair Operator) took top honors with a 102x131, followed closely by Travis Weir with 97 and Richard Stokes (rcs36) with 91. Carley Hoopengarner was our High Lady, and Max Hummel took the Junior honors.

Out of the 120 possible clean runs, we had only one shooter clean a stage for max points. Congrats to Andriy Leknyak for a clean 30 on Stage 6, the double “Know Your Limits” stage at 200 yards.

Scores from Stage 6 proved to be the difference in the match. Thru five stages, we had five shooters tied or just one point off the lead with 73/72 out of 101, and three more within spitting distance.

    Stage Winners
Showing a great balance among individuals, 8 different shooters claimed stage winner (or tied)

    Stage 1—Carley Hoopengarner & Bryan Berbower 17x20
    Stage 2—Peter Myers 23x25
    Stage 3—Richard Stokes & Gary Chaney 19x20
    Stage 4—Rich Hawkins & Allan Towles 18x20
    Stage 5—Andriy Leknyak & Richard Stokes 13x16
    Stage 6—Andriy Leknyak 30x30

Already thinking of next year! Thanks to everyone for coming out, we had several INGO members.
