    Hey, this one works!

I recently purchased a new Marlin 1895G .45-70gvt lever gun.
Out of the box it felt like it was extremely sticky with preservatives.
I removed the lever, bolt, and ejector and started cleaning.

I got the bright idea to get lazy on the bolt.
I dropped the entire bolt into a plastic dog vitamin bottle that had been cleaned and sitting on my reloading bench to hold small parts.
Next I almost filled the bottle with Hoppe's #9 just covering the bolt.
Screwed the lid on tight and set that bottle inside the drum of my Thumbler's rotary tumbler...

About 3 hours later, dump out the dirty Hoppe's and I have one squeaky clean bolt, inside and out!
Stood it on end for an hour or so, then wiped it down and oiled it up.

My new 336 is now slicker n' snot!

Next time just fill the bottle 1/4 to 3/8s. Then into the tumbler. That lets Hoppie a slush around like a washing machine. it will clean just as good and 1/4 the price.

don't do this. The 1895 is normally a little more money than the 336. :

that said polishing does a lever gun good. Sit back now and put tombstone in the DVD player. Sit back and watch em that action over and over during the movie.

Well, that's what I get for buying guns that close together.
I bought both in the past 2 months.
Got the 1895 first, in .45-70, then found a deal on a 336 in .35 Remington.

    They look the same...
