Watched "Book of Eli" last year and enjoyed it, and just watched "The Road" last night. Trying to find more good movies in similar settings.

I hear a lot about "A Boy and his Dog", and I'm told the Mad Max series of movies is worth seeing. Do they hold up well?

What are your favorite movies that involve survival/preparedness concepts?

It's hard to find now but I like The Day After. I remember when that came out on network TV, it frightened the masses pretty good.

Warning Sign was pretty good as well. The Crazies & Contagion weren't bad.

If you believe Al Gore and the "global warming/ climate change" kooks, Waterworld is one to watch. Pretty good movie, even though i'm not a Costner fan

    Leaving out zombie movies.....
The original Mad Max does NOT hold up well. Avoid it unless you absolutely have to see it. The rest are enjoyable.

    -Children of Men. MUST see!

All I know is during the Reagan and both Bush years, we didn't have series like "Doomsday Preppers" or the remake of "Red Dawn" it's simply amazing what the worst president in our history can inspire. I have enjoyed several of the movies listed on this thread, but do any of you remember so many movies coming out during an administration?

Damnation Alley was a great watch in the day. Don't know that it's held up well over the years, but it's a 7. Akira still holds up. Equilibrium is a good one, too. A favourite of mine and the wife's. And On The Beach is a must see, (the original, not the remake).

Jericho TV series was one of the best. It's too bad that cancelled it after 1.5 years. I'll re-watch it every once in a while and forget about the half season and get pissed all over again.

Most people aren't aware that it continued with a season 3 & 4 in comic book form. It picked right up at the airport where the TV left off.

I forgot all about The Stand. It's always a favorite. It used to play on TV quite a bit but I haven't seen it for a while. I'll have to drag out some old hard drives and DVDs. I've got some time this week so that one will be good to watch, along with The Day After again.

    Edit to add:

For the young pups, there is a huge difference between that eco-garbge The Day After Tomorrow and the one mentioned by myself and avboiler11, The Day After. I'm sure quite a few remember the one from 1983 but there are lots more that have never heard of it. I remember watching it when it first aired, then it was played again in school.
