    Bulk fish

Not sure which forum for this....

I've got a pretty good source for bulk pork and beef. We split a cow with a neighbor every year, and split a pig with my in-laws. The 3 of us can't hardly eat it all in a year, so end up stockpiling a bit.

For a variety of reasons, I need to move to a more fish-centric diet. Anyone know of a source for bulk fish? The few decent fish markets have really nice selections, but are not exactly cost effective. I'd like to buy something like tilapia, catfish, whitefish, perch, or whatever (within reason) 20+ pounds at a time. Anyone know of a source for something like this?

Do you have a GFS store near you? Buying product that is still frozen, rather than refreezing thawed fish bought at a seafood counter, will have better quality.

I never bought in that kind of quantity, but I've bought the Tilapia fillets when Kroger has had them on sale. Each fillet is individually vacuum sealed within the big bag, so it makes it handy to just pull out a few pieces without exposing the whole bag to the air.

Didn't think about GFS. Looks like they have 10# cases of various fish. Have to check them out.

There is a store near me that stocks 25lb boxes of Pollock fillets for cheap.
Its really good rubbed in olive oil, seasoned and broiled.

Any particular reason for fish? Venison is pretty lean meat.

If you are leaning towards fish pay attention to its source. certain farm raised fish especially tilapia and catfish come from not so health conscious and environmentally friendly countries. As a consequence them could be not so great for yo body.

Fish will likely be cheaper and easier to source than venison.

THIS. ****hole countries raise those fish in waters that are VERY unclean. Water you wouldnt even want to swim in, let alone eat fish that would consume those pollutants. Also dont rely too heavily on that fish as it is one of the less nutrient rich fish out there. Really low in Omega 3, etc.
