Nothing new....Saudi Arabia already has jets and apache helicopters. We sell everybody else weapons and if they are building them here then I am all for it. It is not like any country that has bought our weapons can actually go head to head with America in a conflict. The only standard weapon that I don't like seeing sold to another country is the stinger missile.

we been arming the saudis for decades now.
they got the sixth or seventh best equipped armed forces in the world thanks to us.

which is good cause when the crusades round two starts, at least it'll be a good show.

    They have the Abrams Tank.
    They have the MLRS.
    They have Apaches.
    They have Strike Eagles.
They have the HAWK Missile System.
They even have some Patriot Batteries...

We have been arming SA since at least the late '80's...
    Nothing new here...

    True...

However, their AIT is Our AIT...
They also get to go to Our Ranger School, SF School, JFK Series of Schools, the War College, all the Marshall Program Classes, and all of Our NCOES and Officer schools...

So they know what we know...

    LOL...

True you can look at some of Our own and see that is still true...

My problem is we are selling them Our equipment (granted it is not the newest and greatest) and teaching them how to best put it to use. One day this will bite us in the posterior...

Let's give all of our weapons to others so we can live in peace & tranquilly here. We all lived in yellow submarines....till we sold them.

I know we've done this for decades but that doesn't seem like a good justification. I routinely challenge my staff when they provide 'we've always done it that way' explanation. Can't help but think this will bite us eventually.

The same could have been said for South Korea and Israel. Except the Kenyan put the kabosh on that. Which makes the continued military trading taking place take on a slightly different pall.

    Same old story.

We arm them, sometimes we train them, we seem to always end up regretting it.

As long as the king is living I think we will be okay. He is getting long in the tooth though. My understanding is there are factions below him that we would not want to inherit the throne. Bandar was always considered a safe choice for us. So we have to worry about that. We also have to worry about a revolution over there. Some of what I have read indicates it is ripe for one.

I don't really like it that we are arming the world but I don't see a lot of issue with this type of sales. Saudi Arabia could not and would not ever go head to head with us and the extremists can only put one or two planes to use in an attack situation. The people I fear are the people who have the stinger missiles or explosives training and will use it. Saddam was supposed to have a mighty army and a HUGE tank force as well as modern fighters in the first gulf war and we seen how well that worked. IF the U.S. are selling a fighter or helicopter then they know damn well how to shoot them down.
