So Cat is blackmailing the feds? We will hire but only if you pay us first!

I do know one area where the government really hurt Cat. By passing all the clean are laws regarding diesel emissions Cat no longer makes over the road engines.

I don't think it was any coincidence that Hope was in the box with all the other bad stuff.

Think about what you're selling if you're selling hope. You're selling the idea that it's good to always imagine something better is coming. How appropriate for a socialist.

Wasn't hope the foundation of Stalin's constantly renewed five year plan?

    Obama lies

    WHAT?

    Come on, now.

Don't you remember how he said he'd be bipartisan and how he invited the Republican Congressional Leadership to the White House to discuss...
    * Oh, yeah, he didn't talk to any Republicans because he had a super-majority and didn't need them.

OK, remember how every bill was posted on-line for 72 hours before being voted on so everyone could see what was in them?
    * Oh, yeah, the Stimulus bill was passed and signed without ANYBODY reading the damn thing.

Well, how about all that time we spent watching the health care reform debate on CNN?
    * Oh, yeah, two versions were passed and the bill was reconciled, in secret meetings, by Democrat Only committees in the House and Senate.

    OK, I guess you're right.

Being a disgruntled member of the Presbyterians, there may be something else going on. The liberals all hate Cat with a passion. Cat sells the dozers to Israel that are used to tear down the huts of the poor downtrodden Palestinians. The libs have been pushing for all the mutual funds to disinvest from Cat.

With all due respect, CAT hurt CAT by chosing not making over the road engines that were compliant. There are other manufactures that figured out how to do it, and have been successful.

CAT made a strategic decision to exit the market due to the regulations....they were not forced out by the government

CAT decided that rather than invest in engines for the NA truck market, they would invest in construction engines and equimpent for the Global market, such as the Chinese example mentioned in the OP.

That's like saying you don't have to give your money to the robber. You weren't FORCED to do it, you could have chosen to get shot instead.

From my understanding CAT is building a factory here in Indiana. We have been shipping them roofing materials for the last 2 months.

Well said! GE chose to invest in the R&D to create a new locomotive to meet EPA emmision requirements, and now they have an export surplus selling them to China and several other countries because they end up saving customers money. Volkswagon is another example.

Most people disagree with any type of government standard, but I don't really understand why. If we set high standards for quality and efficiency, we are basically eliminating competition from countries that produce cheap junk. China has their own locomotive companies, but they continue to buy from GE manufactured in the US. Buy American!
