    I finally got one.

I only buy 1911's... for the most part. I own lots of SA's and Ed Browns... you find something you like that works, and you keep buying it. For years I've lusted after one handgun more than the others but I've never gotten it until now.

The ultimate 1911 to me is the FBI Professional model. It's the only 1911 to have been tested extensively by the FBI and passed their rigorous accuracy and reliability tests for use by their HRT teams.

SA only builds a handful every 45 days to satisfy the FBI contract. The FBI takes what they need and the rest from that run are sold to the general public.

Each pistol is hand built by the SA Custom Shop under the watchful eye of Master Gunsmith David Williams. Keep in mind that Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Les Baer and other masters tried twice to win this contract and failed. Les Baer won it originally, but failed to produce the handguns up to the quality standards of the FBI, so he lost the contract shortly after winning it. SA won on the second trial and has been the soul manufacturer going forward.

This pistols are the ultimate 1911, and in my opinion the ultimate fighting handgun. Now I own one. :rockwoot:

Looks very nice, but from the title of the thread I figured you found a mint condition Detonics Combat Master :dunno: That sure looks like a nice second choice

Well I'll give you credit for being wise enough to choose a 1911, those tupperware guns are all the vogue these days, probably be a lot of black piles of goop due to global warming but the 1911's will keep up the good fight long after the plastic guns are obsolete :twocents:

Looks great, I'm jealous. I ordered one a while back so I have no idea when mine will arrive.

Congrats! I too love the Professional and it is at the top of my list of "must have" 1911s. Let us know what you think after you've shot it.

Self-confessed 1911 ignoramus here... But is there any way to tell, by looking, that this is one of the hand-built FBI contract pistols?

    I are just curious. :)

The easiest way to tell is it will have "Professional" stamped prominently on the left side of the slide. The other way to tell for certain is by the serial number. All Professional models have the prefix "CRG" before their serial numbers.
