    Walter,

If I were in your shoes, I would get the Utah non resident permit. (took me approximately 45-50 days to receive mine after I took the class) That way you could legally carry in Ohio. I had to do that for my personal trips back to Cincy.

While your employer may not like it and may fire you over it, at least you could protect yourself.

Good luck with whatever happens.

Its not something that can happen tomorrow so to speak, but I'd consider classes for a Utah permit if its a job you want to stay at for a while. I'd be feeling the same way with all the stuff going on around you, and a little piece of mind would go a long way. Stay safe man!

Edit: Looks like Bucko beat me to it! :P

I probably would have omitted the whole "Urban" thing too, I can only assume you meant black guys. I'm not sure what the color of their skin had anything to do with your situation.

Also need to be careful with the "axe" part. I would totally avoid the "urban individuals" as it is classifying a whole group of people. Your boss might not share your same views - or he might. HR could have fun with that situation.

Good luck, I await the response(s)!

I don't hate on anybody because of the color of their skin.

Just so happens that just about everybody in this part of town, and every person with whom I've had contact at this location, at this time of day...is black.

    Facts are facts.

I treat everybody with courtesy until I'm proven otherwise.

I see the PC police have shown up.

I would certainly never advise anyone to break the law. I will say that when I have to drive through some of our neighboring fascist states, I follow the old saying, better judged by 12 than carried by 6.

You might call the police and let them know what is going on. I don't know about Indy but a lot of places would be glad to drive by a few times while you are there if they know there are some questionable people hanging about.
definitely this. And call them as soon as you see something when you're there too.

Those that have recommended a few LEO fly-bys during the delivery took the words right off of my fingertips. And while I totally agree with the OP regarding the area (my neighborhood is changing too and not for the better) I would have made the language in the letter more neutral. Having to use deadly force to defend oneself would be hard enough to defend in court without that e-mail being brought into evidence.

Im a truck driver too, locally, and I have made deliveries in some very very shady areas. One in particular on Roosevelt Street on the near eastside of Indianapolis where I returned to my tractor after only about 10 minutes of being in the building to a few younger teenagers climbing all over my tractor. One on the catwalk, one on the driver side steps and one standing on the ground next to them. They were looking for a way in. As soon as they saw me they took off. Too bad I cant carry at work. With my SW99 on my hip they would of broke a 40 yard dash record.

I would interpret the term "urban looking" as "doesn't own a belt" before I'd take it to mean "black guy"

Agreed. Anymore, I'd interpret "urban" as "saggy-pants, hoodie wearin, baseball cap with the gold stickers still on it, shoes with so much plastic you could almost blind someone with a reflection" thug-wanna-be type.
White, black, or brown, doesn't matter.

Some additional info to make things clearer:

    Delivery times are at 0Dark30.

All of my deliveries are "unattended."
This means that the businesses are closed and locked up...nobody is there to receive the delivery.

I am entrusted with the keys to these businesses, alarm codes, etc., and I have to make sure the establishments are secure when I'm finished with the delivery.
I would give the owners their keys back and let them be responsible for their own property and delivery times during buisiness hours. Your just the delivery man. jmo
Be careful man. From what you describe, it sounds very dangerous.

Walter, it seems to me your instincts are giving you a warning and you are wise to heed it. Most times, people dismiss their danger instinct and that is what gets them in trouble. The e-mail to you boss was professional and to the point. I did not see a problem with you addressing your concern to your employer. I, too, will be watching this thread to see how it turns out for you. Best of luck.

I agree 100%. Your email seemed very professional and informative. If anything else it will serve as documentation that you did mention this to someone if anything ever would happen.

Unfortunately true. Most people out beyond most common business hours are not out to make friends. Especially in Indianapolis.

Agreed. Anymore, I'd interpret "urban" as "saggy-pants, hoodie wearin, baseball cap with the gold stickers still on it, shoes with so much plastic you could almost blind someone with a reflection" thug-wanna-be type.

At first I took a little offense to this statement but after thinking about it for a second it doesnt describe me any further than the backwards ball cap and hoodie. I wear New Balance shoes, no stickers on my hat, Im not a thug wanna be, and because of my holster, XD, and gun belt my pants dont sag so I guess this doesnt describe me at all. Im just young....er:laugh:

Just spoke to my boss over the phone regarding this issue. He was very supportive, and agreed that for now to make this location last on my run to be delivered during daylight hours.
