So I work in Cincinnati once a month and wander on occasion to IL. If I am pulled over for a driving infraction and they run my license, are they able to see that I have a concealed carry license in Indiana?

No. Not unless they checked with ISP for some specific reason (and it's not a concealed carry license. ;))

Make sure to transport according to those two state's laws which differ from Indiana's.

FYI.. In OHIO is you are stopped by LEO you have to inform them if you have a firearm in the vehicle per this :http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/ohio.pdf

I don't think that requirement is in IL.

And if you're carrying in IL - well, brother, we wish you well. Not allowed. At all. If I'm heading to Illinois, I typically stop in the Cabela's parking lot to unload and lock up my M&P in the back.

    Not fully true...
    Illinois Carry Guide - ICarry.org

There is "limited CC" in IL. What I was saying in my other post is I'm not sure if there is a requirement to inform LEO if you are stopped in IL that you have firearms on you, in your car, etc. like it is REQUIRED in OH.

Good point, jediagh. However, the website goes on to tell you to carry a copy of the law along with your attorney's phone number :n00b:...and I'd still say it's a pretty gray area. At any rate, you'd need a FOID, which requires you be a resident of Illinois.

keep in mind that ohio has that weird law about loaded magazines.

I had to drive to TX twice this year, and simply took a couple of hours extra, and drove around IL.

I can't remember where I read it, and I don't know that it was true, but some gent actually ran polls, and eventually showed the IL Legislature that their anti-gun laws costs the state over $3 billion a year in lost revenue.

The FOID is ONLY applicable to IL RESIDENTS. If you are an non-IL resident then you do NOT need an FOID card but must follow the rest of what the website says (ie. laws).

Several members of that website have carried in that method, have been arrested and have gone to court to have the charges dismissed (See their forums for more info). The IL Supreme Court has ruled on this limited CC method and has sided with firearm owners. (Again see the court cases on that website) The IL congress is aware of this loophole they created but has not been able to close it. (They have bigger issues to deal with right now: massive budget shortfall).

IMPORTANT NOTE THE INFORMATION ON THAT WEBSITE DOES NOT APPLY TO THE CITY OF CHICAGO! THAT IS A GUN-FREE NO CARRY ZONE PERIOD!

In IL lower government bodies (ie. town/county) can make more restrictive laws then the state. IE Chicago can have a gun ban while the rest of the state does not. :faint:

So is it ok to carry into Ohio as long as you have an IN permit?

NO! You need to do some reading here: Handgunlaw.us

Click on the state you are considering traveling to and it will bring up a new page with that state's info.

No. Ohio does not recognize the IN LTCH.

You must transport/carry according to Ohio non-licensee codes unless you have another carry license they do recognize.

If stopped in Indiana with an ltch, do you have to inform LEO of a firearm in the vehicle. What if they specifically ask.

Not required to INFORM in Indiana, but also can not LIE when asked if there are any firearms or other weapons in the vehicle. If you are specifically asked, then yes you must tell.

You don't have to tell them anything. Don't lie; just decline to answer the question. Refusing to answer does NOT give the LEO probable cause to search.
