People who openly carry are just asking for trouble.. I'm not aginst it since I open carry myself at times, but it is rare

:n00b: Now I'm really curious, too.

On these rare instances that you are just asking for trouble, exactly what kind of trouble are you looking to find?

You come to Mecca and insult mohammed - why?

No one will change their mind and they will just let you know how misguided and ignorant you must be for that opinion. It is the Hatfields and McCoys.

Personally, I do not care if your strap to your forehead or wedge itup in the ol' butt crack - as long as you safely and tactically carry.

I didn't realize ATM is Mohammed, but it certain makes sense!

Regarding OC, there is a good reason why I don't do it more, aside from the fact that I spend most of my time in places where carry is prohibited (work and university). I'm not exactly a people person and don't like being the center of attention. Just not comfortable with it. Over time that may change, but that's where I am at this point in my life.

I've been OC'ing for two years now, and I've NEVER been the center of attention. In fact, I can count on half of one hand the times I've ever noticed anyone deliberately looking at my handgun, and no one's EVER said anything.

People who don't really care for OC make it sound like OC'ers walk through the mall and the crowd parts like the Red Sea in abject fear of their presence.

Yeah, that's kinda the picture I had in my head...I just don't know if I'm ready to be the Ambassador of OC if someone felt like saying something or if a cop wanted to give me trouble. And that goes for everything else I do. I keep my head low. I suppose I ought to OC more in places where people know me.

Make mine open carry 99.99% of the time. I have never once been questioned about it. In fact I have had at least 6 or 7 people tell me that they wish they would see more open carry. One lady said it made her feel safer while she was shopping in the mall. Oh I get the looks, but no one has been negative about it so far.

    ATM,

To reply to the other thread:

Like I said, I understand OCing and support it if that's what you want to do. I just like to conceal mine. I used to live and work in East St. Louis. Everone carried, most illegally of course, and if you OCed that made you a target and they would kill you for it. They saw you as a threat (rightfully so) and they would neutralize that threat.

I know you don't believe I understand OCing...but I do. It's readily accessible and possibly would deter most criminal attacks. It has been my experiences that shaped my opinion on the subject. I'm not saying I'm right...just right for me.

I knew the other posts would upset a lot of people but that's why I posted it. I have my opinion as we all do and if I can start a conversation and get someone to explain their way of thinking, it would help me better understand where they come from. Instead, and I was warned about this, on here most users do nothing but berate others that do not think exactly like they do. I am looking for people to post their opinions and explain them. If I'm wrong, I'll tell you I'm wrong but it has to be proven to me first.

With that said, I carry, my father carries, and I'm trying to get my wife to carry. I have a lot of family and friends that carry. I don't expect everyone to feel the same as I do. But I would like to know why everyone else feels the need to open carry vs. concealed. Everyone has their own experiences that led them to this decision and I'd like to know what they are.

    ATM's not home right now:D

I love a good healthy Debate.
We would get Jehovah's Witnesses at our door and they knew right away they had no chance with me but I'd still drink coffee on the porch and we'd shoot the s**t just for fun. Practice for them or just a break from their route, I didn't care. We would always part civilly.

Had one guy that tried to argue his opinion to the point of him screaming in my face that I'm going to hell and his way is the only way. He was shoving his opinion down my throat. Not a healthy debate. He came close to getting buried in my garden.

Well how about you start off reading the 316 posts in this thread and see if you truly have a new angle to bring to the table or not. Then we can decide to be rude and berate you for your ideas instead of doing it because you are voicing the opinions of others as your own...
