Hello everyone, I had a question Does anyone know of a range in North West Indiana or even slightly away from the North West Indiana area where there is a decent range? By that I mean a range with out DNR on your back staring at you because you have an AK. A range where you can rapid fire or just even at lest to double tap/hammer drill type shooting Just upsets me.

The Range I normally go to is run clean but I don't like the fact that DNR watch you like your a criminal just for bringing a AK look alike rifle. Would like to be able to have a little freedom (within reason and in a responsible way of course. Sorry If I seem like I'm ranting I kinda am I guess.

Just don't know of any good ranges in my area. I don't know if this is even in the right section anyways thank you for your time. and sorry for the small rant.

Your only option may be to befriend a person with a personal range. Or maybe join a gun club I think I remember a person from Michigan city being a part of one in Michigan city otherwise I know there ia one in Chesterton but that is all I know lol.
I can understand that being frustrating for ya. Best o luck

Since you are in MI City I would recommend the club there as it would be very close to you. If I lived closer that is where I would go. Very nice club with indoor and outdoor ranges and even a club house and real bathrooms!

JP range is a good outdoor range, but there is someone there to watch over making sure no one gets shot. If that bothers you, it shouldn't. As long as you are legel there is no problems. Kingsbury has a range and Winimac also. You can look in to these.

Jasper Pulaski and Winamac both have range guys but they really don't bother you. In my opinion Winamac is a much better range with nice benches that are roof covered and concrete floor. The ranges have a nice backstop with plywood that you can staple your targets to and decent bathrooms too (Our lady shooters will like that).

I like J-P, but you can't get close to the place on week-ends. :(

I'm near MC and shoot out at JP every other weekend.

That old dnr guy there is cool as hell and don't bother no one unless they are being stupid.

He gave me some light ball bulgy 7.62x 54 not too long ago for one of mosins. Nice guy.

I've shot AK's, AR's, VZ's, PPS's, Mosins and sighted in all my coyote rifles and no one has ever said squat other then wanting to admire yer shooters.

Take your AK out there, you won't get a second look.

There is a no automatic fire sign posted there though.

There are already a lot of good suggestions here, but when I'm ready to go plinking I head out to Winamac. JP is a little closer for me, but the upgraded facilities at Winamac are worth it. The DNR has been nothing but friendly every time I've been there. Willow Slough is fine, too, but their ranges don't fit my needs as well, and their DNR watches very, very closely - probably not what you're looking for.

As far as private ranges, Sand Burr is fantastic and the owner is a hoot. North Porter County is also a great option. There are some nice guys over at SAM Silhouette Club in Knox, too. Lots of options. Good luck!
