Here is the link to the auction. I didn't get a smoking deal, but if the shipping wasn't so ludicrously high it would be within what I am willing to pay.

I think I paid something like $70 for overnight shipping to TN w/$1k insurance on the last gun I shipped. It can be expensive. You can check it yourself. Go to the UPS or Fedex website and run a quote for overnight with the approximate weight and size of the box and it'll tell you what the cost is.

If it comes out much lower - call the seller on it
If it comes out about right, you know where he's coming from and you can probably work with him to find a cheaper shipping arrangement.

The thing is he is refusing to work with me, so I'm assuming he's trying to screw me based on not getting what he wanted for the revolver. If he was on the up and up he wouldn't be refusing to give me an itemized list of what is costing so much and he would put me in contact with his FFL so I can inquire about cheaper shipping.

Gotcha. I'd tell him to stick it in his ear then.

The seller did advertise, "actual shipping costs", so requesting a breakdown of the costs is not unreasonable. That being said, he can include charges for his time and gas in shipping the gun as part of the "actual costs". I include my time and gas in my shipping charges, but I do quote the cost in the auction.

Unfortunately, it is a case of buyer beware. You can walk away and shoulder the seller's complaint against you, or pay the charges. You could complain to GB, but the seller will just counter with an argument like, "It's $45 to ship and insure the gun. I make $30 an hour, and it's gonna take me an hour to box it up and take it to the shipping center."

    sounds like a hose

    Here is his shipping terms:

Buyer pays actual shipping costs for the following option(s): Overnight, 2 Day, 3 Day, Priority Mail
    No international shipments.
    See Item Description.

Sounds like you have a choice that his is backing out of.

I quoted him those terms in an email. Still awaiting a response. I have let him know he has until tomorrow at 12:30 EST to be more forthcoming with the information I have asked for or I will write a detailed negative feedback and walk away from the transaction.

Have bought a few items on Gunbroker without problem. Bid on many more did not win. Read the ads carefully! If you have any question, ASK the seller. I have decided not to bid based on response, or lack thereof, to questions. IMO Gunbroker is a "hands off" operation where buyers and sellers self police thru feedback.

Having said that, I would walk away unless he offers a more reasonable shipping option.

I'll stick to buying at a store. JMHO. I know there are some really hot deals on GB and others, but I just don't know enough about the electronic transactions to feel safe.

I have bought a LOT off of Gunbroker, and have only had one bad experience.

HOWEVER in that one bad experience, Gunbroker did absolutely nothing to help out. Told me to seek recourse through my local small claims court, and "good luck". At least they did wish me good luck?

Not saying you should, but me personally, I would let him keep it, and for what it is worth, report him to Gunbroker for unreasonable shipping fees.

    Bad deal

This is why I would never buy a gun online from a private seller. I don't care how good the deal appears to be. Buying like this is the perfect application for the philosophy, "Let the buyer beware".

"When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging" applies now. Back away and never mind what GB does.

Correct me if I'm wrong but to sell or ship out a gun a FFL is not required. If GB is
self-policed by rep points then, IMO, then seller is going to take the hit.
