Maybe I'm confused. So if the employees band together and create a union I can still work there and make my own deal with the employer and the union has nothing to say about it and I don't have to pay any fees to the union?

    No problem, then.

Isn't that called "right to work"?;)

I am not dodging a question. Roadie totally ignored what I said in my post and came back with a stupid question. His question was why should someone be forced to do something that they don't want to. Nobody is forcing anyone to join a union. At some places the workers have voted to band together and form a union. Now if you dont want to join their little club no one is forcing you. Just go and get together with your anti-union buddies and work with them. Actually, Roadie was the one who avoided responding to my post by changing the subject. You say I'm acting like a democrat, your right, I'm siding with the workers of this state.(Unions are groups of workers) Democrats support unions,Therfore democrats support workers. Evidently you support republicans, who support big business(manegament) who oppose unions(workers). How the republicans have convincced some workers(fools) into supporting them is beyond me.

I'm for free market, you know, not dictated by unions who take my union dues to give to political parties who I disagree with.

Distribution of wealth anybody? I'll pass, unless you want to give me some money...

Democrats go on strike again when their cash cow is threatened. No shock there. Allowing a choice is gonna cut into their sweet money laundering deal with the union bosses.

How they ever duped so many union members into believing it's about them and their wages rather than their choice of participation is unexplainable.

The only reason it is a "stupid question" is because you are either unwilling, or unable to answer it. How is giving an employee a choice a bad thing? I should be able to choose not only if I join a Union, but where my Union dues go.. If your Union gave money equally to Repubs and Dems, would you be OK with that?

Evidently you support Democrats, who support gun control and government interference in our daily lives.

He's saying it's a stupid question because you have a choice: Go work somewhere else. Which if you think about it, should be the union slogan.

See, they got there first so those jobs don't belong to the employer anymore, they belong to the union. If you don't like it, join the union, pay dues, or go somewhere else. They declared that those jobs are now theirs, so you and the employer can go cry in your beer.

At least they're willing to let you go find another job. They want to use the government to say that the employer can't automate, lay off, move their plant to a better location, or anything else the union doesn't want. The union comes in and now the business is just a way for the union to pay its members. The employers job is to get out there and hustle and make all those good decisions so there's still teats to suck.

Kind of like a parasite. They take over and all they ask of the host is to feed them and shut up about it.

Agreed. To sum it up.. The party that claims to be "for the worker" also says "If you don't like it look for work elsewhere". Hmm..
    Nah, that's not hypocrisy!

+1 and repped for the word parasite, the most applicable description there is.

    Restated:

The party that claims to be "for the worker" is really "for the worker's cash". It's just a typo.

Still wondering what you do for a living, Mr other guy.

If Its true you are a small business owner, unions should scare you silly, sonim guessing that statement was in error.

Or perhaps the small business is running a local union hall?:dunno:

Good news for those opposed to unions.
Pat Bauer just predicted that if Right to Work passes, ALL UNIONS WILL BE GONE FROM INDIANA BEFORE THE SUPER BOWL!

    What a load of :poop:!

As I reported in an earlier post, my wife voluntarily joined her union when she was NOT required to because it gave a benefit she desired: professional liability insurance.
All unions which provide benefits and services their members value will continue to exist and thrive. Others will not.

It seems to me that if unions provide tangible value both to the worker (via safer working conditions and other benefits) and the employer (through increased quality, stability and morale), they will continue without problem.

If not, they will die under RTW just like many union members fear.

A union that does not provide value to both the worker and the employer shouldn't exist anyway, so ...
Unions no longer provide safe work environments. Every corporation out there unionized or not has to comply with OSHA and numerous other state standards for worker safety.

You as employee's banded together to join a union, you as employee's DID NOT directly negotiate with the employer.

It was the fat boys in the leather chairs and fancy offices and all those other perks that did it.

It was also the take it or leave we'll walk out and hurt you approach that blackmailed the employer to bend to your demands.

Now here's a little thing you need to ask your union about your union dues.

Have them give you an exact breakdown where every penny goes to, you will be surprised on how little is kept, and how much is going to people run the union.

My union pres., vice pres, reps, and officers dont have leather chairs nor do they receive kick-backs. They are on the floor everyday working beside the rest of the dues paying members like myself, and THAT is who negotiates our contract. I do believe that these "fat boys" you speak of are negotiating on behalf of the company.

Is your comment relevant to the post you quoted somehow? I don't see the connection.

Regardless, I'm going to call you a liar (tongue-in-cheek) because there is no way you could make a lateral pay move from a non-union to union job. You keep telling us that union jobs pay more because the union. So it goes without saying then that one of your statements is false. Either you did not make a lateral pay move or non-union jobs are just as likely to pay "union" wages. Which is it?

Thank you for calling me a liar ! screw the tongue in cheek , that does not make it all right (wink wink) there are two things that you don't call a good old boy from down south .... one is a liar .....and one is a thief .... sir you have greatly offended me . You sir are a definite wordsmith . yes definite .
