Taking my wife to MCF&G tomorrow for her first time shooting. I can hear it now... When did you get this gun?? :dunno:

Oh well. I'm really looking forward to it.

As long as two don't go out and only one come back, it should be a good thing.
    Good luck with that.
It's either going to be great or terrible.... no in between.

Just put some dirt and oil on it and say "what this old thing? I've had this for years". Quickly don your hearing protection and have some fun. Keep the targets close enough for her to score some points and she should enjoy it. A friend brought his wife and put everything so far she couldn't hit the paper and what fun is that? It took him awhile to get her to go again. They both learned lessons from that day. She has now gotten much better and doesn't think twice about shooting the distance.

Congratulations and good luck. Closer targets will make a more enjoyable experience. Glad she is interested. And when did you get this gun? Well, a properly cared for gun can look new for a long time anyways, not saying lie, but more like deception. Yes; honey, I've had it a while!:D

Maybe you'll get lucky and hear, when do I get my gun! Now gun buying just got easier and the budget just went out the window.

A word to the wise... The ladies are fast learners. My wife and I started shooting together a few years ago, and now I'm trying to figure how to make my groups as small as hers! :):

It took my wife a while to get from, "Why do you need a gun?" to "I'll take that one", (Browning Buckmark), to "When can we go to the range again?" Like others have said, keep the targets close enough to make it fun for her, but not "fish in a barrel" close. Make sure that her first trip to the range is a VERY good experience and the two of you will have many more together.

And be sure you have decent hearing protection. Get some muffs if you don't already have them, foam ear plugs are cheap, but don't work that well.

The noise is the biggest complaint I hear from 1st time shooters.

Congrats! One of the funnest couples i have ever shot with, didn't start shooting together until they was married 15 years! A quote from the wife: "I didn't realize how FUN shooting could be, until i realized it was a passion my husband wanted to share...not something he wanted me to do for him."

I am hoping to get my wife out shooting with me soon. I have had a few long guns for several years, but just bought a couple of handguns last weekend. I really need to get her out there and show her how to use them. She seems interested, we just need to do something with the kids. I am afraid they will keep dropping the targets. ;)

Well I can report that it went OK. She didn't get too excited about it, but I think she did have a little fun. I guess I was expecting her to be more excited about it. I did hear "when did you get that gun?" but I had earplugs in so I didn't actually "hear" it....:evilangel:
