She really got lucky with her stupidity.

Just think about all those years that Barney Fife was lucky he didn't have the same accident.

So, is the assumption that something struck the primer on one of the cartridges inside her purse hard enough to explode it?

I suppose if she dropped the purse on the ground something could strike the primer hard enough. If it was a .22 or other rim fire there would be a lot more primer to strike.

she just wants to sue Walmart!

    Except she was at Lowes.

Maybe it was a couple spritzer rifle rounds that were in the bottom crease of the purse so the they lined up. Would still have to be awfully soft primers though.

I'd think it would get a little messy carrying those around in a purse.

    :D Sorry, I had to.

    I think you meant Spitzer.

    Cheers

Actually if I read the article correctly, and I am sure I did, there was no gun involved

The saying "Eez gon, eez not safe" is repeated for the sake of familiarity.

However, as you rightly point out, ammunition is dangerous as well.

Don't be blase with firearms or ammunition. It makes us look bad.

She was hit by a casing and her son made her go to the hospital. I can't see this causing more than a bruise, though "she coulda put somebody's eye out."

"The incident occurred about 2 p.m., but the woman did not seek treatment at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center until about 5 p.m., after her son encouraged to do so."

Hurry mom, you have GOT to get to the ER within FOUR HOURS of of a bullet wound! We see such ridiculous things in the ER

"Something must of hit the primer of one of the bullets," Bentley said. "The bullet stayed in the purse, but its casing put a hole in the purse and caused a minor leg wound," he added.
Myth Busters did an episode where they put a 50 cal round in an oven and (once they finally got it to explode) that is excatly what happened. The casing, being much lighter than the lead bullet, is what became the projectile. The casing did not have enough energy to penetrate the oven BTW.

Look, years ago I not only carried a revolver in my waistband sans holster, but also carried loose ammo , keys, and often a folding knife in my front pocket. In those days I had more than a passing relationship with Mr.Murphey, but not once did I have a problem... if it were that dangerous, I would have blown off my onions years ago. I smell a lawsuit......
