I'm noticing a little trend lately in country music involving the fusion of country and rap. So, what do you think? Good? Bad? Just a fad? Logical fusion of two styles popular with youth?

I'm not a fan. But, I'm seeing more of it lately so I thought maybe it was just me. If I want to listen to rap, I will. If I want to listen to country, I will. I have no desire to listen to both at once.

Agreed. I'm not a fan of country but I do listen to some rap, so maybe I am not the best test case. Still, I'm going with horrible combination. I honestly didn't know such a combination existed until now.

I think it can be done well, but like any other song, it can also be bad though. I don't care for the Country/rap groups like your first and last example or Colt Ford. Having said that, I've always enjoyed Aldean's Ludacris cut as well as the original cut that is still kind of "rappy" with just Aldean. I've also liked the Jake Owen/Colt Ford song since I heard it even though I'm not a Colt Ford fan. Hadn't heard the Colt Ford/Aldean song you posted. I'm not sure about it yet.

Yeah this is just another one of the many, many reasons I don't turn on the television or listen to anything but talk radio. Save for my mp3 player. Which does not carry any of this type of "music".

normally rap makes me think about my gun, but Cowboy Troy has a song called "I play chicken with the train". It is my only exception. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUPK9z59yUc[/ame]

This is the one situation I'm glad that my employer bans handguns or else my service pistol would be in my mouth right now and and my finger on the trig

I blame this on country going more "pop" these days. Most modern country is glossy, poppy stuff to appeal to the masses, country boys, teenage girls, and folks who live in rural towns but listen to rap and hip hop cause its "cool" but like country too. I love country, just not the pure garbage they churn out now. "Country girl shake it for me" and "Truck Yeah" come to mind. Thats not country folks. For my money, Dwight Yoakum is one of the last guys really being true to country music. I miss the late 80's and 90's when pop country was George Strait, Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Dwight Yoakum, Tracy Lawrence, Marty Stuart, and whoever else of the true country gang I'm leaving out. Todays country though....pew pew

Let me make this clear. I HATE rap. Rap is for those who lack artistic musical talents and are not willing to put in the time and hard work to develop those skills. Cant change the station fast enough. I can put up with country/pop but thats where I draw the line.

I don't listen to it either, and for many of them this is true. But you can't seriously say most of the big names like the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Busta Rhymes etc have no talent.

I mostly agree with you. I can't say I hate all hip-hop artists. But it's kind of like junk-food "music". It's not meant to be refined and it's unhealthy for anyone to live off of. I can appreciate it for what it is - to a degree. It's not what it was at one time. The influx of trifling idiots with beatboxes, autotuning and microphones in the last decade has destroyed what was once an interesting craft.
