This is pretty funny in parts, but I have to admire the SPD for getting out in front of the issue and letting people know what will be, now that Washington has legalised pot. I must give them a big thumbs up for saying they won't be assisting the feds in hassling pot smokers. That takes some guts in this day and age.

While not a smoker, I am very happy this passed, along with the initiative in Colorado.

Good move. Now the PD will have more time to deal with burglars, murders, robbers, and rapists.

Very good for them and being able to throw a little humor in makes it even bigger of a +1.

What makes you think any other jurisdiction would be different? I marijuana laws came off the books in Indiana, I wouldn't be arresting people under federal statues either. If the Feds want it done hire more $100k/yr agents...

...and send me an application

I'm interested to see how their local economies react. Because you know that people are going to be growing and selling for profit. As long as it's not for medicinal, it's ok to sell. Do you think the trend will spread?

I'm a bit confused about that business of Seattle LEOs being sworn to uphold federal law.

The Constitution, yes...but a local LEO can't enforce federal law unless he holds a commission as some sort of federal officer.

I wonder how this will affect the hiring process in WA and CO. Obviously, most employers frown upon showing up to work under the influence, but can you be denied employment for using a legal substance "off the clock"? :dunno: Seems like there will be a lot of details to iron out, but I give kudos to these states. With so many states having upside down budgets, this could be a decent way to generate some tax revenue....
