Your statement doesn't make sense. Marijuana is now legal there but the statement from SPD days officers can not smoke it. How is that holding the officers to the same standard as everyone else?

I think his point might be that some employers will still not allow their employees to smoke pot if they want a job. so I guess it is kind of fair. If you want to smoke pot do not get a job that test for it.

What of air traffic controllers? I could list the professions who currently do not allow for cannabis use, but it obvious that it isn't necessary. I don't need to do that to prove a point. If you wish to consume cannabis, don't drive a school bus. That is the current state of matters. Your issue lies with employment based biological screening. Not the law.

Now that it is legal will they be allowed to refuse someone a job who smokes? Does the fact that someone smokes become a private matter? The only job I can think of whic forbids alcohol would be The Old Guard that protects the tomb of the unknown soldier (maybe there are more, just none that I can think of).

Some places are already barring employment if you smoke cigarettes on your own time, why would pot be any different?

I would imagine that federal employees will still be required to abstain since it is against federal law. SPD officers aren't federal employees though.

That is correct. It doesn't advance your argument. You need to convince the brotherhood to allow for your consumption of cannabis.

.....and a private employer can do that, but a govt employer cannot. It's difficult for local govt to justify excluding a segment of the populace due to, according to local govt, participating in a legal act.

I don't need it to advance my argument though. If a SPD officer is a resident of the state of Washington they should be allowed the same rights as every other resident of the state.

Good luck with that, the public isn't going to want their protectors stoned anymore than they want their Dr stoned

Seriously? How the hell would they know if someone smoked a cig when they get home from work? Are they testing for tobacco?
Yes. Some employers are checking for tobacco use and denying employment (or terminating employment) for smokers. Don't see where this will be any different for some employers.
