I have a feeling I still would have been lectured and asked "Are you proud..." or whatever. The 2nd officer didn't seem very accomidating or friendly.

Hand them LCTH and tell them to **** off. LCTH equals ID'ing yourself, so nothing else needs to happen. :)

Yes, don't know how to stop the lecture.
Maybe if you quote statistics on police vs citizen AARs.
    No, that wouldn't work either.

Like the typical, "you're gonna be targeted for OC'ing" that gets passed around by LEOs

He said "If someone came in here to rob the place, who do you think they're going to target? And you aren't even trained. Are you proud of that?"

Pissed me off a bit, so I said "I've heard all the lectures on both sides, it's my choice how to carry."

It's easy to say all the "I would have said" and "I would have done this..." comments. But when you're in that situation, with 25 people staring at you, it's uncomforting to try and push back like that.

I've been there. Fun times were had by all but the cop who walked away furious :)

If OCing is so bad, why do you do it, Officer?
Perhaps you could tell me all the news reports of that happening, to help me understand better.

If you want to get smart (or dumb) how about..
Gee Officer. Have you had a$$hat training. So that you could do it so well?

    1) They did nothing wrong by taking your handgun. Until it was verified after-the-fact that you did have an LTC you were in the position of illegally carrying in the eyes of the law.

    2) Dropping the mag may have been a little excessive but what where they supposed to do with the gun you handed them? Put it in their belt Mexican style? Stuff it in a pocket somewhere?

    3) Comments were not necessary and could have been handled by you in a number of ways. I generally find that selective deafness works wonders.

    4) Once you admitted that you drove on a bad licenses all kinds of worse things could have happened to you. Consider yourself lucky and don't be such a mope next time. :)

Such incidents can be quite embarrassing (especially if it's your first time.)

To note, the attorney's card may not be warranted in this instance but it's nice to have if/when you do need it.

Full disclosure: you're welcome for the ride. ;) and after you walked out a lady walked up to the officer and said "I'm sure glad you guys were here, thank you"

No need to carry your LTCH on you, though it certainly is convenient if stopped.
    Indiana Code 35-47-2

No need to present your driver's license for anything other than a traffic stop, either. Name, address, and birth date should suffice.
    Indiana Code 34-28-5 (34-28-5-3 and 3.5)
    and Indiana Code 9-24-13

I can understand why some folks would prefer the path of least resistance, rather than the legal path. Doesn't make it right, though.

There are times when I do not have my wallet on me, and therefor do not have ID or my LTCH. As long as I am not driving, I don't see the problem.

At least they only dropped the mag. My last encounter with IMPD was dropping the mag, removing every round, and field stripping the gun to hand me back a pile of parts that I couldn't contain in two hands and had to have my friend take a pile.
