There is some hope that this will give the emotional firestorm time to cool. Pro second amendment folks need to take that time to educate and inform the UN-informed. I don't trust the Biden led commission to get it right.

I have to say, those are some unexpected words coming from the man who brought us "Romney didn't pay any taxes for 10 years." I figured this guy would do anything to push his progressive agenda.

The purpose of the commission is not to "get it right", it is to find a way to enact gun control and further restrict gun rights. Nothing less. I would be surprised if they went in any other direction than that.

This is just a leftist author I bet. He is not satisfied with Obama, and many leftists aren't, since he didn't nothing in his first four years...

Reid already said that it is time for gun control.

Ummm...the Washington Examiner is vastly more right leaning than left. I seriously doubt their writer is left leaning.

York is one of the best of the true conservative journalists.

If anyone was really "serious" about this commission would they actually put Biden in charge?

As i am not the most politically knowledgeable person i dnt really know how i should take this. With feinstein screaming AWB and obama saying hes behind AWB i really dont know how to take this. Obviously politics dont tell the truth, could this be a bait n switch tactic by obama to slide an Executive Order right under our nose????? I just dont know what to think anymore, as if i knew to begin with.....

This is exactly why I'm not terribly worried about the outcome of this. Obama was just saying a little while ago that the gun debate in this country was "over" and just about every legislator on Capitol Hill knows that trying to enact laws that would extremely limit firearms ownership in this country is akin to politically jumping off of the Empire State Building with no parachute.

My guess is that there will be a VERY hard push to require a background check for any firearms purchases/transfers, as this is the single gun control topic with the broadest support - a solid majority among NRA members, and even a significant fraction of users on here, who require seeing a valid LTCH for classifieds purchases.

After the background check issue, I'm guessing that there might be more enforcement of existing laws, particularly with restricting purchasing ability to people who have been committed to a mental institution or deemed too mentally unstable to own a firearm.

IMO, this talk of banning all semi-autos is simple off the wall. If the Congress did that, there would be absolute burning hell to pay in the next federal election cycle, and they ALL know that.

If anything comes of the so-called renewed AWB, my guess is it would be predominantly predicated on controlling availability of high cap mags.

In the mean time, once the major news organizations find something else to latch onto, this story will be old news. In fact, from a political strategy POV, the best thing the pro-gun side could do now is simply find some other news story to get the major media to focus on.

I think Obama and Biden will try to push something, a new AWB, mag size, gun show loophole, etc. I think the politicians in the Congress are wanting to lay low and see where public opinion ends up. I think Manchin misgauged and found out the citizens of WV weren't happy with his position. That is why I think it is important that everyone contacts their Reps/Senators.

I t is likely to end up being like the Shepard Kernan report on Government reform. The worst parts are where they will try and make the changes. Then, leave the good ideas out completely.

Another way to be able to say "we looked at every possobility. And this is what makes sense". Just trying to make us feel better better after the raping.

The only good outcome I can see is the possibility that Reid understands that it sucks to be a D who owes much to the NRA, making this a point where he is unwilling to do what so many did for Obama with the ACA/Obamacare and commit political suicide. So goes my moment of wishful thinking!

On that note, what have they gotten right in the last 4 years? Exactly. We know what to expect

In the days since the Newtown killings, many Democrats and their supporters in the press have expressed a desire to enact “meaningful” gun control as soon as possible....

The reports I read said that Lanza kicked in a locked door at the school. Doesn't sound like a very secure door. Not to say there is any perfect solution, but what if school building codes required security doors that could not be kicked in with such minimal force? Wouldn't that be more “meaningful” than gun control? Just a thought. :twocents:

Totally. Agreed! Keyword in Reid statement was "Administratively".......watch for more white letter presidential decrees. They will try to bypass legislation at every turn, it takes years to unlock the constitutionality of these procedures when ruling by fiat.

Remember, this admin was going to be MOST transparent in history......exactly opposite. Don't ever listen to what they say, watch carefully what they do.

Guys, again, calm down. The Republicans aren't going along with any new gun control laws. The Democrats remember the legislative backlash from the last time they passed it. The Dems will talk to their base, then let this die a cold and lonely death once emotions calm down. Just like Obama did the first 4. Promises to keep the base happy, doesn't actually do it because the reality forces it another way.

Even when you get good news, confirmation that the world isn't about to crash down on your ears and steal your guns, you want to blow it off and concentrate on the paranoia and fear. Relax.
