    Quick notes over his speech:

He has a specific set of proposals
Intend to use whatever weight this office holds to make them a reality

LEO/Schools/Public Health - Given tools to help reduce gun violence
    Strengthen background checks
Help schools hire more resource officers
    Develop Emergency preparedness plans
Make sure mental health professionals knows options for reporting likely offenders
CDC to study ways to reduce gun violence
    23 executive actions total

    Congress Mentioned In:
CONGRESS SHOULD require universal background check for any firearm purchase
CONGRESS SHOULD restore ban on AW and ten round mag limit
CONGRESS SHOULD make it harder to manufacture military style assault weapons
    CONGRESS SHOULD help law enforcement

So it looks like a lot of this is going to go to Congress, rather than go via Executive Order. I think that was smart on his part....to many EO's at this point could easily have pushed a large number of people over the edge, so to speak...

Also, I like how some peoples rights being denied means that we should deny more people different rights, since all of our rights are so important....make sense much?

All the executives orders sound like a great plan to me, although I have yet to read the actual text. As for his urging on what congress should do, we all already knew that was the way he felt. All in all, I am extremely happy with the outcome, but I'm sure that will **** some of you off. Good thing I don't care.

No. It's done very much to change things. Their ban has assured that law abiding citizens can't defend themselves.

I've followed the gun issues in Chicago for awhile simply because I'm not going to a Sox game when people are trying to set a new high score around when I want to go. The majority of what I've seen (as far as gun crime) has been revolving around gang infested areas. I do understand what you're saying and I agree but as far as the trying to rack up high scores, it hasn't changed anything.

The EO's, from the list above: Copied for your convenience.

The following is a list, provided by the White House, of executive actions President Obama plans to take to address gun violence.

    1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

    2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

    3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

    4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

    5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

    6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

    7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

    8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

    9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

    10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

    11. Nominate an ATF director.

    12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

    13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

    14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

    15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

    16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

    17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

    18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

    19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

    20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

    21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

    22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

    23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

Honestly, my opinion....I'm rather happy with a large number of them. I agree schools need more research officers, I agree that our healthcare system could use some tweaking, I'm fine with gun companies researching innovative new safety technologies, more law enforcement officials and training will be good....a lot of good things, I think, in the EO's.

Now, the items going to Congress, I'm not so hot on. But at least they are going to Congress, and not being done by EO.

It's mind boggling how far outside common sense and reality most of you will go just to make a disparaging comment about the President.

Honestly I think that its not been nearly as bad as most people anticipated....in fact, I don't see one thing in the Executive Orders that I disagree with, besides the background check requirements, and maybe something shady behind the "information sharing" referenced. Less info the gooberment has the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And honestly....yes, I can see the background check changes having a bit of an impact on people who shouldn't have guns getting them. It still won't stop two criminals from exchanging guns between them, but it could stop a law-abiding citizen from inadvertently selling to someone who they don't know is a criminal.

I can see the benefits of that one, although I still wish it wasn't implemented.

I think 14, 16, and 17 have the most potential for abuse, but the EO's didn't turn out to be the armageddon that some feared.

I wouldn't laugh too hard. The magazine and semi-auto ban could still be trouble if brought to a vote.

How will your Congressmen vote? Have you encouraged them to vote our way?

Well that was unnecessary. Thanks for your opinion.

And as Steelman said, now is a great time to contact your congressmen. Everybody on INGO should do that; you have NO reason not to!
