If everyone had to deholster to enter a gun store, then robbers could just wait outside, pick any car, and steal a loaded gun. I interpret these no gun loaded signs in guns stores to mean that you should not bring in a gun to sell/trade--a loose, loaded gun. If they really believed you shouldn't wear a sidearm, then they should NOT be selling guns (in the name of public safety).

My right to defend myself doesn't end when I walk into a store. They can kick me out, but that would be their loss.

I believe that the signs are posted for insurance reasons,AND to remind people that if they are bringing something to sell or trade to be sure that it is cleared. This is not uncommon.Any establishment that has an employee that gets excited to order someone around after hearing that he or she is carrying a firearm had better find higher quality employees.Maybe that is why he was working where he was though.

Shooter521- wake up and chime in!

I could swear he's already gone public on the position, but try as I might I can't find the post I'm thinking of. Considering that, I won't state what I think I remember he said, but hopefully, he'll come along and clear things up.

Do they got some new people working there lately or something? There's been a lot of negative reports coming out of Plainfield lately. Who is this guy so we can avoid them?

Out of curiosity why would you avoid a shop based off of another person's opinion? I am not passing judgment on Op, but I have witnessed my fair share of out of line customers.

Not sure if I would want to go into a (GUN) shop that has a problem with carrying.
something just sounds wrong with that.
who's side are they on ?

What's the difference between the Indy 1500 and a LGS on any given day? Nothing but the number of people in attendance at one time. Which means the stupid-meter can get pegged with one single individual.

They're on their side, obviously. And I would be too if I had to worry about idiot douchebags coonfingering a loaded firearm with patrons within striking range.

Depends on the person. There are a lot of people here on INGO whose opinion I trust without reservation when it comes to these kinds of things.

I have actually had discussions with several shop owners and they usually don't care as long as it stays holstered. If for whatever reason a shop doesn't want people to carry, I would think they would give benefit of the doubt to the customer and politely let them know they have a "no carry policy." Of course, I have been in some shops where the staff were extremely rude and condescending to customers.
Sniper Co in Ft. Wayne has a sign that states "No loaded firearms, unless in a holster". (Or close to that wording)
Sounds like a good policy to me.:)

I've heard that claim a lot, but never seen or heard of any proof. I think "insurance" is an excuse.

How about instead you make the policy KEEP YOUR LOADED GUN IN THE DAMN HOLSTER!

There is no reason in the world you need to be drawing a loaded gun inside a gun store unless you're planning to shoot someone. If you're going to check the fit in a new holster or you're going to sell it, go outside and unload it.

I wonder if there is any statistical proof of the danger of death at a gun shop by accidental discharge as compared to a lineman,or garbage man.I bet it is a pretty safe job.

Makes sense to me...I believe I stated clearly in the post that he informed the clerk that he would not "try" the holster because the weapon was loaded, concealed.
